Job Context:
∎ The Arannayk Foundation (AF) was established in 2003, under a "Debt-for-Nature Swap" agreement signed between the Governments of Bangladesh (GOB) and the United States (US), within the scope of the US Tropical Forest Conservation Act, to promote forest and biodiversity conservation in Bangladesh. Since then, AF had provided financial and technical support to numerous Local NGOs/CSOs, Academic and Research institutions to implement more than a hundred projects and research initiatives to conserve forests and biodiversity and development of alternative livelihoods of the forest dependent communities to reduce the exploitation of natural resources on one hand, and on the other hand, contribute to forest and biodiversity conservation. In Partnership with the Forest Department, the USAID and the World Bank, Arannayk Foundation has been implementing several projects that are promoting co-management for conservation and restoration of forests and biodiversity and facilitating community led, ecosystem-based solutions to climate change adaptations as a specialised organization in the natural resources` landscapes of Bangladesh.
∎ We are headquartered in Dhaka while having field-level operational units stretched up to Chittagong Hill Tracts and Cox`s Bazar to provide capacity building and implementation supports to communities, local organizations and concerned forest department personnel.
∎ Arannayk Foundation has recently onboarded an exploratory project titled `Market study for wood chips, sawdust, and other wood products including furniture (demand and supply)` to provide technical assistance to the Bangladesh Forest Department. The project focuses on conducting a nationwide wood-based market study including policy and regulatory review for enhancing value chain and export. The project will identify the scales and extent of the wood-based market value chain and actors, demand and supply of the wood-based market, including wood chips and sawdust, focusing on domestic consumption, import and export, and furniture trends etc. Besides, this project will develop a survey-based database on the demand, supply and forecast for tree species that will be available to nursery owners, farmers, and the public.
∎ Working in a team and mobilizing a team to gather field data in accordance with project requirements is the primary responsibility of the position.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Conduct and coordinate other assigned enumerator's data collection through FGDs, KIIs, and face-to-face questionnaire surveys from wood-based market value chain actors.
∎ Coordinate with team leader and project coordinator to get appropriate guidance to lead the survey team in the collection of qualitative and quantitative data.
∎ To assist and provide on-field support for field enumerators in the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) system using Tablet and GPS machines.
∎ Overseeing the field data quality as collected and submitted by field enumerators
∎ Provide support to the project team in organizing meetings involving local community people and relevant stakeholders.
∎ Undertake any other tasks assigned by the project coordinator and team leader of the project.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Working experience in field-based natural resources management projects with NGOs and academia will get preference.
∎ Strong skills in computer-assisted surveys, GPS use, FGDs, KIIs and face-to-face questionnaire survey.
∎ Ability to work in any geographic setting of the country with diverse team members.
∎ Written and verbal efficiency in both Bengali and English.
