MSc/MA in Entomology, Biology, Zoology (with entomology/ecology focus), Veterinary Medicine, Public Health, or a closely related field with demonstrated experience in arthropod vectors.

Experience

• Professional work experience with various (non-)governmental stakeholders in vector control (minimum 2 years) is essential

• Conducting laboratory-based diagnostic assays (PCR, ELISA) related to mosquito vectors and mosquito-borne diseases desirable

• Professional experience with MSF or another NGO desirable.

Language

• Mission language (Bangla and English) essential, local language (Chittagongian) desirable

Knowledge

• Essential computer literacy (word, excel, and R or SPSS)

• Reporting skills and research methodology

• Risk identification related to mosquito vectors/vector ecology and behavior

• Use of determination keys to identify insects to species level



Responsibilities & Context:

Knowing the national vector control policy and ensuring that proposed actions comply with this strategy. Improving understanding of the dengue vector(s) in MSF interventions areas: behaviour, strength, transmission, mapping, seasonality. Reviewing existing studies in the field (if any), and coordination sites on dengue to gain an overall impression. Contributing to the understanding of dengue transmission risk by performing an environmental assessment of the designated intervention site(s).

• In collaboration with the epidemiologist: defining the areas with high morbidity and most affected by dengue and helping in making appropriate decisions, which includes activities related to vector control. Interpreting the increase in dengue cases in the surveillance zones using information on understanding the vector, coping mechanisms, etc. and participating in exploratory missions in regular projects or outside the province as needed, giving the necessary support to the identification of relevant data

• Defining, planning and organizing the annual plan of entomological activities in close collaboration with other team members and the budget associated therewith, in order to improve the effectiveness of vector control responses. Identifying and proposing operational research themes in line with the medical department and WHS

• Proposing vector control approaches and practices in prevention adapted to the context, including (if applicable) strategies as intra house spraying, or other actions not already done by MSF. An effort should be made to incorporate more innovative and sustainable actions, respectful with the environment

• Performing vector trapping and identification, as well as vector packaging, transportation and other tests as needed.

• Monitoring resistance in mosquito vectors to different insecticides, establishing alternative control methods and implementing strategies to reduce and mitigate the risk of insecticide resistance in the country

• Supporting the medical coordination in the analysis and interpretation of data collected, focusing on the vector. This allows to take the most appropriate decisions regarding the establishment of vector control interventions. Together with the epidemiologist, submitting a concept note for research topics in the field of dengue control and prevention

• Supporting the health promotion and community engagement team in developing and validating materials used for community engagement activities related to vector control activities

• Liaising, connecting and coordinating with local and national stakeholders, such as, but not limited to, HE institutions, government offices, and third-party pest control operators, to promote and conduct activities targeting dengue vectors, advocating for and ensuring the adoption of integrated vector management processes.



Job Other Benifits:

    Permanent Contract. Salary according to level Five (8) of the internal MSF salary grid (BDT 108000). Salary is not negotiable. Income tax deduction from salary based on current income tax rule. 2 annual leave days per month worked. Medical insurance for employee and direct dependents based on Health Care Policy- Locally Recruited Staff.

    There is no provisions for relocation. 2 Festival Bonuses after completion of one year of uninterrupted continuous service.
