Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience in DRR, climate change adaptation, Child and youth leadership, emergency preparedness and response programming.
  • Practical experience in risk and vulnerability assessments, contingency planning, early warning systems and community-based preparedness.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing anticipatory action measures and facilitating simulation drills and preparedness exercises.
  • Strong understanding of national disaster management policies and coordination mechanisms.
  • Experience working with local government institutions and community disaster management committees.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance on resilience and risk reduction interventions.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent communication skill both Bangla and English.
  • Strong ability to support risk assessments, preparedness planning and training.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with local disaster management authorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools such as GIS, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or equivalent software.
  • Ability to produce short videos, reels and visual stories for social media, websites and campaigns.

Responsibilities & Context:

Project Name : Children & Youth Leading Inclusive Movements for Adaptation, Transformation &  Environmental Resilience (CLIMATE).

Duration : Approximately 03 (Three) years. 

Location: Zanjira Upazila, Shariatpur

Reporting To: Project Manager

SDS (Shariatpur Development Society) is a Bangladesh-based non-governmental organization founded in 1991 and formally registered with the Department of Social Welfare (1992), the NGO Affairs Bureau (1993) and the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (2008). SDS received its first foreign funding in 1994 and established a long-standing partnership with PKSF in 1996. Working primarily in climate-vulnerable areas, SDS addresses climate change-induced vulnerabilities, disaster risks and structural poverty through participatory, inclusive and accountable approaches. SDS has experience working with institutional donors including UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, UN Women, FAO, IOM, CARE, Islamic Relief and START Network members and is actively engaged in national, regional and global networks such as CANSA, GNDR, NEAR, INAFI, APWLD and Girls Not Brides. The DRR Officer will provide technical leadership on disaster risk reduction, anticipatory action and community resilience within the CLIMATE project. The role will support risk assessments, preparedness planning, training and coordination with local disaster management structures. The position will ensure that project interventions strengthen local capacity for early warning, response and climate-resilient practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implement DRR, preparedness and climate adaptation interventions (25%)
  • Conduct hazard, vulnerability and risk assessments (20%)
  • Facilitate disaster preparedness drills, simulations and trainings (20%)
  • Coordinate with Ward, Union, Upazila and District Disaster Management Committees (15%)
  • Promote nature-based and anticipatory adaptation solutions (10%)
  • Document DRR activities and learning (10%)
