Responsibilities & Context:

1. Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department to ensure efficient patient flow from registration to discharge, admission, or transfer.

2. Monitor patient waiting times, treatment progress and bed availability and take necessary actions to minimize delays and improve patient satisfaction.

3. Act as a liaison between emergency doctors, nurses, diagnostic services, inpatient units, ambulance services and other hospital departments to facilitate timely patient care.

4. Ensure accurate and timely documentation, patient records management and maintenance of departmental reports, statistics and performance indicators.

5. Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, referrals and discharges in accordance with hospital policies and clinical requirements.

6. Monitor departmental resources, equipment and supplies, ensuring adequate availability and prompt reporting of maintenance requirements.

7. Assist in handling patient and attendant concerns, complaints and feedback, ensuring prompt resolution and service recovery.

8. Support emergency response activities, disaster management plans, mass casualty incidents and departmental emergency preparedness initiatives.

9. Maintain compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, infection prevention protocols, patient safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.

10. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports and communicate key performance metrics to departmental leadership.

11. Coordinate staff schedules, attendance records, meetings, training sessions, and departmental communication as assigned by management.

12. Collaborate with quality improvement teams to identify operational challenges, implement corrective actions, and enhance emergency service delivery.

13. Facilitate effective communication between patients, attendants, and healthcare providers to ensure a positive patient experience.

14. Participate in departmental audits, accreditation activities, and performance improvement projects.

15. Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager – Emergency Department, Head of Nursing, or Hospital Management.
