Job Context:
∎ Project Title: Resilient Futures for the Rohingya Refugees
∎ Job Location: Dhaka University Campus with frequent visits to Chattogram, Cox`s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari hill districts.
∎ Job Duration: 24 Months (fixed term)
∎ Starting Date: 15 December 2019 (tentative)
∎ Project Background: The project is a research collaboration between the Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction at University College London (UCL) and the Department of Disaster Science and Management and the Centre for Genocide Studies (CGS) at the University of Dhaka (DU). The project is funded by the Royal Society, UK. This is an extensive project to conduct in-depth social vulnerably assessment at different scales in the Chattogram Hill Districts (CHD). The primary focus of this project is landslide disasters in Bangladesh and understanding theories of conflict and disaster risk reduction (DRR) by considering physical, social, economic, cultural, institutional and environmental dimensions.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 2 years of professional working experience after graduation either in academic institution or research organization.
∎ Demonstrated expertise in developing and managing international grant-based multi-party projects with focused orientation on Landslides in Bangladesh/ Rohingya Crisis/ DRR/ Conflict and Migration/ Relevant field of Social Sciences with the following Key Competencies.
∎ Proficient in innovative survey design and applying qualitative social-science related research methods including FGD, PRA, KII, and Oral Narratives. [Mandatory]
∎ Excellent reading, writing, and listening skills in Bengali and English. [Mandatory]
∎ Expert skills in conducting advanced statistical analysis using SPSS or STATA. [Preferable]
∎ Strong command in using NVivo and graphical software would be preferable. [Preferable]
∎ Superior skills in report writing and performing advanced (social-science) data analysis.
∎ Able to assimilate in local context, travelling, work under pressure, and staying in remote places.
∎ Organising stakeholder and community based participatory workshops and seminars.
∎ Commitment to work enthusiastically as a member of the team for the entire duration of the project.
Salary:
∎ Between GBP £350-£400 per month (negotiable based on experience and relevant skills). All fieldwork related costs will be provided in addition.
