Professional Experience

  • 8 years of relevant professional experience in Finance, Banking, Insurance, Development or Sustainable Finance,

  • Demonstrated experience in sustainable, green, climate or biodiversity finance and/or risk transfer mechanisms, preferably involving cooperation with public and private financial institutions and relevant government authorities in Bangladesh.

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Good knowledge of the financial sector and regulatory environment in Bangladesh, including relevant public and private financing mechanisms.

  • Good understanding of financial feasibility, business models, investment analysis and risk assessment.

  • Familiarity with gender-smart finance and gender-responsive approaches is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical, coordination, facilitation, reporting and documentation skills.

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional networks with government institutions, banks, insurance companies and private sector actors.

  • Willingness to travel regularly to project areas and participate in meetings with national and international partners.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills; good interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written.

  • Fluent in English and Bangla (oral and written).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and familiarity with digital financial and data-management tools.

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities in a dynamic and intercultural work environment.



Responsibilities & Context:

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.

GIZ in Bangladesh is currently seeking applications for the position of “Advisor- Sustainable Finance for Biodiversity Conservation" under ‘Strengthening regional cooperation, funding for sustainable management and restoration of coastal ecosystems in the Bay of Bengal (Sundar Bay)’ project.

Contract Duration: One year

A. Responsibilities

The position holder is responsible for:

  • Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior.

  • Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups.

  • Advise supervisor on all tasks when implementing GIZ rules and regulations.

  • Advise supervisor in the field of project planning, steering and monitoring.

  • Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager.

  • Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit.

  • Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solutions.

B. The position holder is responsible for the following tasks

Tasks

  • Lead the development and implementation of gender-smart financing and risk transfer mechanisms for the long-term conservation of the Sundarbans.

  • Coordinate and provide technical input to financial analyses and the design of selected financial instruments.

  • Develop and maintain cooperation with relevant banks, insurance companies, financial institutions, regulatory authorities and government partners.

  • Manage the preparation and coordination of implementation plans for selected financial instruments, including responsibilities, timelines and resource requirements.

  • Organize and facilitate technical consultations, workshops and capacity development measures with relevant public and private sector partners.

  • Ensure that gender considerations are appropriately reflected in the design and implementation of financial instruments and contribute to monitoring, documentation and reporting of results.
