∎ Project Background: The USAID Bangladesh Mission supported IPM Activity is a three-year initiative with the goal of strengthening the capacity of Bangladesh`s agricultural sector stakeholders to control and prevent the spread of current and emerging threats in order to ensure more efficient, profitable, and environmentally safe agricultural production and productivity. The Activity is in one hand promotes IPM packages for 13 different crops resulting creation of demand of IPM technologies while on the other hand supports private companies marketing IPM technologies/ products i.e., biopesticides, pheromone lures and traps to develop distribution network so that last mile farmers can get them at their closest proximate. Collaboration in-country with CIMMYT, value chains, and local institutions and agencies is required.
∎ Job Summary: The Accountant`s responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger, and preparing month-end close procedures and reports. A successful Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The candidate will work closely with the Financial Coordinator of the IPM Innovation Lab at Virginia Tech. S/he will report directly to the Country Program Manager.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and funds receivable.
∎ Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results.
∎ Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
∎ Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.
∎ Provide technical support and maintain automated accounting system, QuickBooks.
∎ Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
∎ Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process.
∎ Provide input into program's goal setting process.
∎ Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule.
∎ Withhold income and VAT taxes and process payments on time.
∎ Assist with annual audits and tax filings.
∎ Provide support to internal and external audits to ensure compliance.
∎ Support month-end and year-end close process.
∎ Document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
∎ Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS principles.
∎ Liaise with Financial Coordinator of IPM Innovation Lab to improve financial procedures.
∎ Timely collect time sheets for all in country staff to process payroll on time.
∎ Process all nonpayroll payments on time.
∎ Keep track of all expenditures for monthly budget vs. actuals analysis and review all transactions to make sure that they are in accordance with FTFBIPMA and USAID policies, rules and regulations, that is: expenses are reasonable, allowable, and allocable.
∎ Other accounting, financial management and administrative tasks consistent with the overall scope of this position assigned from time to time by the respective supervisor.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Proven experience as an accountant.
∎ Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures.
∎ In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)/IFRS.
∎ Knowledge of Bangladesh tax and VAT laws.
∎ Familiarity with financial accounting statements.
∎ Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
∎ Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like QuickBooks.
∎ Advanced MS Excel skills.
∎ Accuracy and attention to detail.
∎ Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
∎ At least 3 years relevant professional work experience.
∎ Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization.
∎ Problem solving and root cause identification skills.
∎ Must be a team player and able to work with and through others.
∎ Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks without compromising the quality, team spirit and constructive working relationships with all colleagues.
∎ Excellent organizational skills, detail-orientation and flexible work style.
∎ Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information.
∎ Excellent English and Bengali communication skills required.
∎ Proficient in MS Office and internet applications are required.
∎ Experience with accounting for international development projects. Experience working with USAID funded project would be an asset.
