Educational Requirements:
∎ Bachelor's degree in English / Social Sciences / BBA and or 2 -3 years' experience in a relevant filed in the Cox's Bazar context.
Job Context:
∎ Translator/Transcriber Terms of Reference SAVE.
∎ SAVE established in 2006 with a view to promote national development through education development and improving socio-economic condition of the target peoples including the disadvantaged and vulnerable women and children of the society. It believes in unlocking human potential and derives appropriate approaches for brining the target population out of vicious cycle of illiteracy and poverty. SAVE works with the Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG) to implement a project titled " Rohingya Documentation Initiative in Bangladesh" aiming to train volunteers in the Rohingya camps in Cox`s Bazar to document human rights abuses through witness interviews. The collected statements are uploaded and stored in a secure database for usage in future transitional justice efforts.
∎ Owing to the sizable number of statements collected, the importance of ensuring the utmost accuracy and confidentiality of all statements, SAVE has recommended the creation of the Translator/Transcriber position.
∎ Available to start in December 2022;
∎ The Translator/Transcriber will be a consultant of the Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG) and directly supervised by SAVE.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ The Translator/Transcriber will support the data management process by providing translation and transcription of interviews collected by Rohingya documenters in Coxs Bazar refugee camps. The Translator/Transcriber will also work with the Rohingya documenters to build their capacity to analyze, including through translation and transcription of interviews, interviews collected from victims and witnesses of atrocity crimes committed in Myanmar by cooperating with them on interview translation and transcription.
∎ Directly work under the Database officer
∎ Coordinate with other SAVE project coordination managers and Rohingya documenters to translate and transcribe the audio recordings from interview with victims and witnesses into English;
∎ Serve as the main point of contact for documenters to answer questions about the interview processing as it relates to translation and transcription;
∎ Train documenters to translate and transcribe the interviews from the audio recordings into English through formal and informal workshops and ongoing mentorship;
∎ Submit monthly reports to the Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG) on the progress of the translation and transcription of interviews.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Background and expertise in translation and transcription of audio materials required (demonstrated proficiency in human rights concepts preferred);
∎ Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
∎ Fluency in English, proficiency in Rohingya and/or Chitaggonian;
∎ Experience working with volunteers preferred.
Salary:
∎ Consolidated Salary: BDT 60,000 - 65,000 (Per Month).
