Responsibilities & Context:

Job Context:

The Strategic Sourcing Manager – Engineering Procurement is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for engineering, CAPEX, MRO, utility, and technical service categories to ensure uninterrupted business operations, cost competitiveness, and sustainable value creation. The incumbent will lead local and international sourcing initiatives, manage strategic supplier relationships, drive innovation, mitigate supply risks, and support engineering projects through effective procurement planning and execution.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement category sourcing strategies for engineering equipment, machinery, spare parts, utilities, MRO items, and technical services.

  • Drive procurement excellence through TCO, value engineering, volume consolidation, and supplier collaboration.

  • Conduct comprehensive market analysis, supplier benchmarking, spend analysis, and industry trend monitoring to identify sourcing opportunities and cost optimization initiatives.

  • Explore innovative procurement solutions, alternative technologies, and supplier-driven innovations to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Lead strategic sourcing projects to ensure long-term supply sustainability and competitive advantage.

  • Manage end-to-end import procurement activities, including global sourcing, supplier selection, commercial negotiations, LC coordination, shipment tracking, customs clearance support, and logistics coordination.

  • Possess strong knowledge of international trade practices, INCOTERMS, customs regulations, and foreign procurement procedures.

  • Evaluate global supply markets and develop sourcing strategies to optimize cost, quality, lead time, and risk exposure.

  • Coordinate with commercial, finance, logistics, and clearing & forwarding teams to ensure smooth import operations.

  • Lead RFQ/RFP processes, techno-commercial evaluations, tender management, supplier negotiations, and contract finalization.

  • Ensure timely procurement of engineering materials, spare parts, machinery, and project equipment to support operational and project requirements.

  • Support project procurement planning and execution using CPM, Gantt Charts, and milestone-based procurement tracking.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure procurement activities align with project schedules and commissioning requirements.

  • Ensure rapid procurement support during plant emergencies, critical equipment failures, and sudden operational breakdowns.

  • Develop contingency sourcing strategies and maintain emergency supplier networks to minimize downtime and production loss.

  • Coordinate cross-functionally to expedite procurement, logistics, and supplier response during urgent situations.

  • Establish critical spare parts sourcing plans and risk mitigation measures for business continuity.

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with local and international suppliers.

  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations based on quality, cost, innovation, responsiveness, and delivery performance.

  • Drive supplier development initiatives and encourage innovation through collaborative partnerships.

  • Identify and onboard qualified suppliers to reduce dependency risks and improve sourcing flexibility.

  • Develop and implement procurement risk management strategies covering supply disruption, geopolitical risks, currency fluctuations, logistics challenges, and supplier dependency.

  • Monitor market dynamics and proactively identify potential supply risks affecting business operations.

  • Develop alternative sourcing plans and supplier diversification strategies to ensure business continuity.

  • Lead risk assessment activities for critical engineering and CAPEX categories.

  • Negotiate commercial terms, payment conditions, warranties, service agreements, and long-term supply contracts.

  • Ensure optimum utilization of Incoterms and commercial arrangements to reduce procurement costs and operational risks.

  • Manage contract compliance and ensure adherence to organizational procurement policies and governance standards.

  • Support legal and commercial dispute resolution with suppliers when required.Partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Finance, Commercial, Quality Assurance, and Logistics teams.

  • Provide procurement expertise and strategic recommendations for operational excellence and business transformation initiatives.

  • Support organizational growth through proactive sourcing and supply chain innovation.
