∎ RTI is a consortium partner on the USAID`s Esho Shikhi Activity, a 5-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract awarded in February 2021. The Activity will be implemented in eight (8) Divisions, fifteen (15) Districts and eighty (80) Upazilas, targeting 10,000 schools and 20,000 teachers from Grade 1 and Grade 2 in Bangladesh. The objective of Esho Shikhi is to improve the learning outcomes of marginalized Bangladeshi children in crisis-affected, marginalized communities by achieving the following results:

∎ Result 2: Enhanced Teaching Quality and Teaching Learning Materials to Improve the Quality of Education in Selected Subjects
∎ Result 3: Capacity of Field Level Mentors Strengthened to Deliver Quality Education
∎ Result 4: School Communities` Ability to Mitigate and Manage the Effects of Shocks and Stressors on Education Access and Quality Improved
∎ RTI will recruit a Senior Education Research Specialist to support and contribute to Esho Shikhi`s monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities. The Senior Education Research Specialist will be positioned within the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, Learning, and Adapting (MERLA) team and will liaison with RTI home office technical experts to lead efforts related to designing and conducting research to report on and/or guide intervention activities.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ To support the MERLA team with Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA), RTI will recruit a Senior Education Research Specialist. This individual will assist in a range of technical tasks needed to successfully conduct baseline/endline assessments and research studies throughout the life of the Activity. All tasks will be conducted under the supervision of the MERLA director and in close collaboration RTI home office technical staff, Esho Shikhi consortium partners, and government counterparts.
∎ Support designing and conducting baseline and endline Student Learning Assessments using statistically representative sampling to measure learner reading and comprehension competencies in grades one and two
∎ Lead research studies that will support piloting and identifying successful intervention approaches
∎ Support the process of getting in-country research and ethics approvals
∎ Draft research protocols, training materials, presentations, and other supporting documents
∎ Assist in identifying potential data collection institutions and support relationships with research subcontractors
∎ Support training of field researchers; participate in field research (interviews, survey administration)
∎ Monitor and document data collection processes and provide support to subcontractors, as needed.
∎ Contribute to data analysis and report writing.
∎ Support Activity efforts to review and use evidence and project data to ensure flexible and responsive implementation throughout the life of the Activity
∎ Lead the use research findings to support identification of lessons learned and document and disseminate successful approaches for scaled up and determining/applying mid-course corrections
∎ Lead the use research findings to support discussions related to project learnings, successes, and challenges during bi-annual meetings with government officials and with relevant school communities at the local level

Additional Requirements:
∎ Must reside and have work authorization in Bangladesh
∎ Fluency in Bangla as well as excellent communication and writing skills in English
∎ At least 6 years of experience in educational research, research processes, and participating in research teams
∎ Strong analytical skills (quantitative and qualitative data) and experience with analytical software (STATA, SPSS)
∎ Experience working with education government officials at national and subnational levels and familiarity with/understanding of government processes
∎ Proven ability to manage and support complex and geographically disparate research activities
∎ Proven ability to work across technical and operational teams
∎ Proficiency in common productivity software (MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel, MS Power Point, email)
∎ Ability to multi-task
∎ Ability to work well with others
∎ Ability to listen and communicate well both verbally and in writing
∎ Ability to work independently
∎ Attention to detail and accuracy
∎ Wiliness to travel in the remote and rural area of Bangladesh
∎ Physical/Mental Demands

∎ Travel within country to visit program sites and/or collect data
∎ Thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI
∎ Ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines
∎ Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require
∎ Ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
