∎ Smart Innovations School is looking for an enthusiastic full-time Special Education Teacher to join our team. This teacher will foster and facilitate the intellectual and social-emotional development of the students in the school. The teacher will establish a safe and secure environment where children feel comfortable and supported. She/he must be a nurturer, providing encouragement, compassion, understanding, consistency, equity and kind words as students navigate throughout the day. She/he will foster academic growth in students while being in tune with each student`s unique needs.
∎ This Special Education Teacher will collaborate with all teachers and staff to help children develop and socialize. She/He will partner and communicate with parents to support, guide and share in their child`s academic growth; maintain open and two-way communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement and supporting the child`s family relationships
∎ Ultimately, this teacher will help and inspire children to achieve important learning milestones. She/He will prepare students for transition to the next grade.
∎ All Teachers must work collaboratively with co-teachers, school staff, supervisors, and all other stakeholders to uphold the vision, mission, and objectives of Smart Innovations School.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Teach individual and groups of students with mild or moderate disabilities.
∎ Modify existing curriculum to meet each student's learning requirements and build individual education plans tailored to specific needs.
∎ Create a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.
∎ Ability to build good relationships with students, parents, teachers and staff
∎ Well-organized and self-driven to devise and adopt new techniques for teaching and learning
∎ Keep track of and reflect on students' progress.
∎ Monitor children's behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions as needed; Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict
∎ Coach/mentor other professionals who work with children with disabilities; Collaborate with the support staff to create holistic intervention plans
∎ Observe, evaluate and record children's social and academic progress, provide constructive feedback to parents and distribute written reports
∎ Provide parents with recommendations to promote a better learning environment at home
∎ Utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning opportunities as well as using special tools and equipment provided to stimulate an effective learning environment
∎ Maintain a clean, organized classroom
∎ Attends and participates in staff meetings and extra-curricular/school related activities and committees
∎ Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth and works with administrator to formulate and complete professional development plans
∎ Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the program's goals and objectives for program improvement as needed; Assist in the accreditation process as appropriate to the position and request by Directors
∎ Inform Head of School of any problems, conflicts or program concerns as soon as they arise
Additional Requirements:
∎ TEFL/TESOL Accreditation
∎ Experienced with SEN (Special Education Needs) practices
∎ Experienced with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) techniques
∎ Experienced with Inquiry Based Learning Methods
∎ Teaching experience at the elementary and primary level
∎ Ability to create IEPs
∎ Familiarity with IB (International Baccalaureate) programs
∎ Experience with STEAM education
∎ English speaker
∎ Effective verbal and communication skills, Self-motivated, Ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers
∎ Effective time management skills
∎ CPR / First Aid Certified, or the willingness to obtain certification within the first three months of start date
∎ Ability to lift, push and/or pull objects up to 25 pounds.
