∎ The PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them, and as such, the PYP Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership and coordination of the IB PYP within Smart Innovations School. The PYP Coordinator is a key member of staff who works closely with all members of the primary team: administrators and classroom teachers to coordinate, lead and ensure effective curriculum planning and recording. This person will have extensive knowledge and experience with delivery and leadership of the IB PYP. The PYP Coordinator will be expected to work within the Leadership Team to ensure the schools Vision and Mission are followed. The PYP Coordinator will work with grade level and single subject teaching teams, and the parent community, demonstrating outstanding communication skills. The role also requires supporting and monitoring teachers to ensure that an inquiry approach to learning is delivered across the school. The PYP coordinator also identifies and addresses PYP professional development needs.
∎ The PYP coordinator is responsible for all PYP administrative procedures and other PYP-related issues as they arise. He or she will always provide active and dynamic leadership and support. When necessary, he or she will regularly identify and report issues to the leadership team and all those dealing with the PYP curriculum and help to resolve issues once identified. This leadership position provides significant opportunities for professional growth.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Support and mentor new PYP teachers in the classroom.
∎ Provide learning engagement input and feedback for PYP teachers.
∎ Provide opportunities for teachers to observe one another in practice and support them through regular classroom visits.
∎ Assist the Leadership Team with Strategic Development Plan.
∎ Serve as Head of School when Head of School is absent.
∎ Serve on the Advisory Board.
∎
∎ Organise teacher support with planning, modelling and strategies in learning environments.
∎ Work with teachers to ensure that the inquiry approach is being used in all learning environments.
∎ Facilitate and coordinate weekly teacher planning meetings.
∎ Establish and coordinate appropriate curriculum teams that meet the needs of the school.
∎ Have oversight of the integration of digital technologies into the PYP.
∎
∎ Be an active part of the Leadership Team and provide feedback about the progress and development of the PYP.
∎ Keep the leadership regularly informed of PYP developments.
∎ Assist teams in planning for the PYP during regularly scheduled planning meetings.
∎ Ensure that curriculum-related parent meetings and workshop opportunities are provided.
∎ Ensure that all PYP teachers have access to the MyIB.
∎ Communicate newly published PYP documents to all PYP teachers.
∎ Contribute to the presentation and promotion of the academic programme within the Smart Innovations School.
∎
∎ Provide induction to the PYP for new PYP teachers.
∎ In consultation with the leadership of the school, identify areas for professional development, and plan internal and external workshops accordingly.
∎ Communicate relevant PYP professional development opportunities for staff.
∎ Review Professional Development (PD) applications from teachers and forward to relevant members of the leadership team.
∎ Ensure that all PYP teachers have access to the reporting guidelines and provide assistance.
∎
∎ Provide PYP teachers with relevant PYP curriculum documentation
∎ Provide guidance for PYP teachers in understanding PYP Scope and Sequence documents.
∎ Ensure that PYP teachers understand how to use the PYP unit planner.
∎ Ensure that curriculum documentation is up-to-date.
∎ Liaise with the Executive Director and the Head of School regarding PYP curriculum issues.
∎ Oversee the review of the Programme of Inquiry on an annual basis, and submit a report to the leadership team.
∎
∎ Keep copies of all correspondence with the IB, including forms, documents and reports.
∎ Assist the Head of School & Curriculum Coordinator in determining main curriculum resources and other needs for professional development; and in placing resource orders.
∎ Ensure that teachers keep long-range plans for the PYP up to date.
∎ In advance, notify the accounts department of IB payments.
∎ Prepare and submit any documentation required for authorization and evaluation.
∎ Ensure that all requirements and procedures set by the IB concerning the Programme are adhered to.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Experienced PYP Coordinator
∎ Qualified to teach at the elementary / primary level
∎ A minimum of 3-years proven teaching experience
∎ Skilled in educational leadership and able to inspire others
∎ Organised, efficient and clear in thought
∎ Inter-culturally aware with well-developed interpersonal skills
∎ Completed background check - 5 years
∎ Fluent English speaker
∎ Effective verbal and communication skills, Self-motivated, Ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers
∎ Effective time management skills
∎ CPR / First Aid Certified, or the willingness to obtain certification within the first three months of start date
∎ Ability to lift, push and/or pull objects up to 25 pounds.
