Job Context:
∎ Solidaridad strives to ensure sustainable economic opportunities for smallholder farmers, involving the private and public sector organizations, research and extension affiliates and other entities. The Programme Officer- Supply Chain is responsible to implement the value chain and supply chain development work and develop market linkages for the sub-sectors of aquaculture, fruits and vegetables and dairy. The Programme Officer- Supply Chain will facilitate the development of productivity and economic opportunities of the producer groups/clusters including entrepreneurship development through market and financial linkages, business plan development and implementation. The position will facilitate backward and forward market linkages and ensures access to quality inputs and sell of produces to the markets. S/he is also responsible for providing hands on support for functioning businesses of the entrepreneurs and the market structures developed by the project and support for operationalization of the markets. The Programme Officer- Supply Chain will facilitate the access to finance process for the commodity producers.
∎ The position will be based in Khulna/ Jashore and will report to the Commodity Manager.
∎ Employment Type: Project based fixed term
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Responsible for providing marketing and business support and linkages to the SaFaL supported households to become successful agro entrepreneurs in the assigned area.
∎ Guide partner organization for implementing the programme delivery/milestones in time and ensure quality programme implementation through regular monitoring and technical backstopping
∎ Work closely with local, regional buyers to facilitate the sale of farmer's produces
∎ Forecast demand and supply by collecting data from producer groups and make bridging between buyers and producer groups
∎ Identify challenges that restrict the market and sectoral growth in the assigned location and explore possible solutions as per local context in consultation with management
∎ Support to establish and operationalize collection centers and agro input shops for creating market access of quality product (input and product selling) and strengthen capacities of the entrepreneurs to develop those as successful business entity
∎ Support to develop micro enterprises for supporting the SaFaL business center and employment generation of PG's members
∎ Facilitate to organize vaccination, deworming and AI services and promote fodder production for improving fertility and reduce farm production cost
∎ Promote technologies in the producer groups for supplementing quality production through demonstration and piloting etc.
∎ Follow up on the technical session, and ensure demonstration, piloting and backstopping support for proper implementation
∎ Facilitate capacity building training for project staff, lead farmer and community livestock workers on dairy supply chain development, efficient farm management, enterprise farming, business plan, business operation etc.
∎ Organize capacity building training, workshop and other sessions for internal staff, project partners and external stakeholders
∎ Explore business opportunities and provide market specific business plan for the producer groups, entrepreneurs and SaFaL supported market structures
∎ Responsible for mobilizing the market actors including arotdars and farmers to promote business and trading in SaFaL-supported Village Super Markets (VSMs) and designing campaign activities for farmers, in consultation and coordination with regional team.
∎ Take initiatives for developing entrepreneurs around VSM and link them with different market actors for business expansion
∎ Ensure frequent visits of Producer Groups (PGs), local, regional and national level market and export businesses to explore potential business opportunities, develop relationships and buyer networks to enhance output market operation.
∎ Work closely with M&E team for collecting info & its analysis and sharing with relevant parties.
∎ Take part in process documentation, collection and compilation of required information and development of case studies and project reports.
∎ Work in close collaboration with other team members and contribute to develop an efficient working team.
∎ Participate in relevant meetings and workshops to develop participatory management plans
Additional Requirements:
∎ Sound understanding on agricultural market system in the local context
∎ 5- 7 years' professional experience marketing and enterprise development for Agriculture/Aquaculture/ livestock and agricultural market system development. Prior work experience in market system development projects in Bangladesh will be preferred
∎ Experience in access to finance and/or competitiveness support activities for donor-funded economic development projects;
∎ Demonstrated experience in facilitation and capacity development;
∎ Basic computer literacy, use of Microsoft Office Packages
∎ Skills in documentation and donor reporting as per results indicators
∎ Person Specifications & Attributes:
∎ Ability to work in a team;
∎ Proven understanding on marketing, financial and operational aspects of agri-business;
∎ Proven ability to work in an multi-cultural environment;
∎ Analytical writing skills in English and Bengali; excellent communication skills and fluent spoken English are required;
∎ Self-driven and high work ethics
