Responsibilities & Context:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage all activities related basic nursing support such as reposition patients in  wheel chair and bed, transporting patient in bed & wheel chair throughout the hospital; ensuring that  patient is comfortable and safe at all times.

• Maintain professional and friendly rapport with patients, visitors, and staffs

• Assist housekeeping duties as necessary such as cleaning the rooms and tidying the unit, putting stores and clean and well-mannered environment for the patient at all times.

• Assist patient transfer to different areas as requested.

• Collect indented goods/stationeries from Pharmacies and general Stores as per instructions of Nurse in charge of the concerned unit.

• Safe moving and handling of patients with different mobility problems.

• Assist patients with their admission to the ward area or out patient’s department, welcome them and guide them to appropriate area.

• Accompany and assist discharged patients to the main exit gate.

• Assist nurses in providing basic nursing care, shower, bath, sponge and shave patients under supervision by a trained nurse.

• Assist in maintenance of instrument and equipment by proper cleaning, sterilizing and Storing as direct.

• To check daily While chair, Trolley in working condition.

• Help patients to move around and communicate.

• To understand an emergency situation and respond in a timely and appropriate manner.

• General Responsibilities

• Adheres to infection control policies and practices.

• Be courteous, polite and maintain well groomed appearance and maintain dress guidelines. Visibly wearing the photo/ name identification card as well as maintain standards of basic good hygiene.

• Knock before entering to patient room or office and wait for response.

• Respond to all enquiries and requests promptly and courteously.

• Understand the proper use of fire extinguishers and fire response actions and internal/external disaster plans and procedures, and evacuation procedures and participates in safety training.

• Follows and practice correct hand washing technique.

• Understands and be aware of appropriate personal protective equipment and uses same in practice.

• Be aware of the Hospital’s Hazardous Waste Management System:

            a. Appropriately segregates waste at the point of origin.

            b. Discards waste in appropriate bags, receptacles, etc.

 Performs all other tasks as required by the department.

SPECIFIC AREA WORK REQUIREMENTS

OT PCAs

• To check operating theatre lights and service machinery are working correctly under supervision of Theatre Nurse.

• Transport patients to and from operating theatres

• Pre and Post operative beds preparation

• Collection of Blood from Blood Bank

Special Care Unit PCAs:

• Transport patients to and from units

• Collects of Blood from Blood Bank

Radiology PCAs of Radiology:

• Transport patients to and from Radiology

• Deliver portable X-ray, Ultra Sound to critical areas.

• Collects and transports X rays and reports between units and Radiology

• Assists with cleaning of instruments and article in Radiology under supervision of a Radiology Technologist.
