Education:
  • Diploma in Nursing Science & Midwifery / Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) from a recognized institution.

  • Valid registration with Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC).

Skills Required:

Additional Requirements:

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Mandatory

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Mandatory for ICU/CCU/ER

  • Advanced clinical skills in critical care nursing

  • Effective communication and multidisciplinary coordination

  • Proficiency in handling life-support systems and critical equipment

Responsibilities & Context:

Position Title: Nurse In-Charge

Department: Nursing Services

Reports To: Head of the Department, Nursing Services.

Area of Responsibility:

Floors, Wards, Cabins, and Critical Care & Procedural Areas including:
ICU, CCU, Cardiac ICU, NICU, PICU, Cath Lab, Pre & Post Cath Units, Emergency, Cardiac OT, General OT, Neuro OT, Ortho OT, Gynae OT, Post-Operative Ward, and Oncology Units.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Safety

  • Ensure delivery of safe, ethical, and evidence-based nursing care across all assigned units.

  • Supervise patient assessment, care planning, nursing interventions, and evaluation.

  • Monitor patient conditions and ensure timely escalation of clinical concerns to the medical team.

  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control practices in wards, ICUs, OTs, Cath Labs, and oncology areas.

  • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely nursing documentation.

Critical Care, OT & Procedural Area Management

  • Supervise nursing care in ICUs, NICU, PICU, Cardiac ICU, Emergency, and Post-Operative units.

  • Ensure readiness and proper functioning of life-saving equipment, monitors, and emergency drugs.

  • Coordinate nursing activities in Cath Lab, Pre & Post Cath units, and all Operation Theatres.

  • Ensure compliance with surgical safety checklists, time-out procedures, and sterile protocols.

  • Oversee post-operative monitoring, pain management, and early identification of complications.

Unit Administration & Operations

  • Prepare and manage duty rosters to ensure adequate and skilled staffing in all areas.

  • Allocate nursing duties based on patient acuity, procedure complexity, and staff competency.

  • Oversee patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.

  • Ensure availability, safe use, and maintenance of equipment, consumables, and medications.

  • Maintain unit census, stock records, and handover reports.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Supervise, guide, and support nursing staff, OT technicians, and nursing assistants.

  • Conduct orientation and on-the-job training for new staff.

  • Monitor staff performance, discipline, and adherence to professional conduct.

  • Encourage continuous learning, skill enhancement, and teamwork.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, SOPs, and statutory regulations.

  • Participate in quality improvement programs, clinical audits, and accreditation activities

  • Monitor and report incidents, adverse events, and near-misses.

  • Ensure patient confidentiality and ethical nursing practice across all units.

Communication & Coordination

  • Act as a liaison between consultants, anesthetists, surgeons, nursing staff, and support departments.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and clinical meetings.

  • Address patient and family concerns with professionalism and empathy.

  • Ensure effective shift handovers and continuity of care.
