Responsibilities & Context:

Job Summary

The Medical Officer (Eye/Ophthalmology) is responsible for providing primary and emergency eye care services to patients. The officer works under the supervision of a Consultant Ophthalmologist to assist in diagnosis, treatment planning, patient follow-up, and minor ophthalmic procedures.

Department: Eye / Ophthalmology Department

Reports To: Consultant Ophthalmologist / Head of Department (HOD)

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Patient Care

  • Examine patients in the Eye OPD/IPD

  • Assist in diagnosing eye diseases and conditions

  • Conduct vision tests, eye examinations, and take patient histories

  • Prescribe medications and treatment as required

  • Manage emergency eye cases

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of Cataract, Conjunctivitis, Glaucoma, Dry Eye, Eye Infections, and other ophthalmic conditions, Etc.

  • Assist in Minor OT/Procedures

  • Ensure proper pre-operative and post-operative patient care

  • Maintain and update patient medical records accurately

  • Coordination and Administrative Duties

  • Coordinate with Consultants and Nursing teams

  • Follow infection control policies and procedures

  • Comply with hospital SOPs and medical ethics

  • Provide necessary counseling and guidance to patients and their attendants
