Education:
MBBS from a recognized medical college with valid BMDC registration.
MBBS with at least 2 years of professional experience in the cardiology dept. after completing a postgraduate qualification such as FCPS in cardiology / MD in cardiology or D-Card.
Prior experience in a cardiology department or tertiary care hospital setting will be an added advantage.
Strong clinical acumen, diagnostic skills, and ability to handle cardiac emergencies effectively.
Proficient in interpreting ECG, ECHO, ETT, and managing temporary pacemaker insertions under supervision.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
Requiring commitment to a six-day workweek with eight-hour shifts per day, including on-call duties as scheduled in the departmental roster.
Remain calm in stressful and high-pressure situations and adopt a timely and rational approach.
Maintain strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues and juniors.
Job Summary
The Junior Consultant – Cardiology is an integral part of the cardiology care team at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital. This role involves providing direct clinical support to senior consultants, delivering evidence-based cardiac care, managing emergency cases, and performing essential diagnostic and interventional procedures. The consultant is responsible for monitoring inpatient progress, coordinating investigations, and ensuring seamless multidisciplinary collaboration. Additional responsibilities include contributing to quality improvement initiatives, academic activities, and mentoring junior medical staff in high-dependency cardiac care units.
This position requires strong clinical judgment, procedural competence, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, tertiary-level hospital setting.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Clinical & Patient Care
Conduct comprehensive daily inpatient rounds prior to the consultant, ensuring accurate updates in patient case sheets, progress notes, and care plans.
Deliver treatment as per consultants’ directives and monitor clinical progress, modifying management as needed based on clinical assessment.
Initiate and track diagnostic investigations, ensuring timely execution and reporting to support patient management.
Coordinate interdepartmental referrals and communicate external specialty inputs effectively to the supervising consultant.
Review prescribed medications, including dosage, frequency, and administration routes; update or modify prescriptions as clinically indicated.
Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, procedures, medications, and discharge plans, in collaboration with the primary consultant.
2. Emergency & Procedural Support
Fulfill on-call responsibilities, including immediate assessment and initial management of cardiac emergencies in the Emergency Department.
Assist senior consultants in diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures such as coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Independently perform procedures including:
Central and peripheral venous catheterization
Echocardiography (ECHO)
Exercise Tolerance Testing (ETT)
Electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation and reporting for outpatients
Emergency temporary pacemaker implantation
Manage critical cardiac conditions in high-acuity settings such as the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department.
3. Development & Collaboration
Actively engage in departmental quality assurance and patient safety initiatives to enhance clinical care delivery.
Participate in clinical meetings, journal clubs, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, internal workshops, and academic paper presentations to support continuous professional development.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure cohesive and patient-centered cardiac care.
4. Supervision & Mentorship
Provide clinical guidance and supervision to junior doctors within the CCU.
Support junior staff in clinical decision-making, documentation, and adherence to hospital protocols and best practices.
