Job Purpose

The DGM / AGM – Fabric Technology will lead the strategic and operational execution of knit fabric research, technical development, quality assurance, and sustainable sourcing. This role acts as the technical bridge between fabric mills, garment production, and international buyers to ensure innovation, cost efficiency, and zero-defect fabric execution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fabric R&D & Innovation

• Drive research and development of novel knit fabric structures, yarn blends (e.g., sustainable fibers, performance yarns, functional finishes), and eco-friendly dyeing/finishing techniques.

• Partner with international buyer design and sourcing teams to translate aesthetic concepts into technically feasible, cost-effective fabric bulk options.

• Oversee seasonal fabric range building and present new knit innovations to global clients.

2. Technical Quality & Process Optimization

• Establish rigorous technical standards for physical/chemical testing, including GSM control, shrinkage, torque, colorfastness, pilling, and dimensional stability.

• Troubleshoot complex technical issues in knitting, dyeing, printing, and finishing across partner mills and internal facilities.

• Set standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fabric inspection (4-Point System) and shade-band approvals.

3. Mill Management & Sourcing Strategy

• Audit and evaluate local and international knit fabric mills for technical capability, compliance, capacity, and quality control.

• Negotiate technical specifications with mills to optimize yields, minimize cutting wastage, and reduce lead times.

• Monitor mill performance metrics (OTTD, right-first-time dyeing ratio, bulk pass rate).

4. Cross-Functional Integration

• Collaborate with Garment Merchandising and Production teams to address fabric-to-garment conversion challenges (e.g., spirality, sewing needle damage, wash effects).

• Advise pattern makers and sample room teams on fabric behavior, stretch factors, and garment wash allowances.

• Support costing teams by providing accurate technical consumption and fabric yield parameters.

5. Leadership & Sustainability

• Lead and mentor a team of Fabric Technologists, R&D Executives, and Quality Controllers.

• Drive sustainable initiatives including recycled fiber adoption, low-water dyeing technologies, and compliance with global certifications (GOTS, Oeko-Tex, HIGG Index, ZDHC).
