Job Responsibilities:
∎ Key responsibilities of the service are:
∎ In collaboration with Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Radiology provision of MSK between Primary and Secondary care Provision of physiotherapy care to a diverse range of clinical conditions and patient types in a variety of environments across community settings. Service management, planning and development within a defined budget and multidisciplinary framework. Development, implementation and management of a Clinical Governance Strategy.
∎ Expert Clinical Practice:
∎ Manage a complex clinical caseload, including listing patients for routine orthopedic surgery as appropriate, act as an expert resource and role model within the Advanced Physiotherapy Practice service for specialized Physiotherapeutic management.
∎ Act as an expert clinical and professional resource at local, regional and national level, working with colleagues in other professions to develop and promote the role of Advance Physiotherapy Practice for patients with MSK conditions, including advising Multi-disciplinary teams.
∎ Lead on development of evidence based clinical protocols and policies within management of MSK conditions to improve outcomes of interventions for Physiotherapists, GPs, Secondary care and patients.
∎ Negotiate with clinical colleagues to achieve appropriate interventions for the benefit of patients (e.g., organizing an urgent investigation or intervention for a patient with a serious clinical issue).
∎ Demonstrate skills and knowledge to request, interpret and act upon the results of diagnostic tests within the Professional Scope of Practice for Chartered Physiotherapists.
∎ Operational Management
∎ Strategic and operational management of the MSK service to maximize efficiency and achieve desired quality of care ensuring appropriate use of resources within a defined delegated budget.
∎ Strategically plan and implement future MSK service development, including ongoing demand and capacity analysis and present reports to stakeholders, Clinical Service Managers, Senior Management Team.
∎ Investigate, respond and take appropriate action in response to complaints verbal and written, within MSK Pathways service.
∎ Staff management of Pathway Leads guaranteeing Performance Management and Personal Development Planning in line with existing policies.

∎ Utilize manual physiotherapy techniques, including joint manipulation, requiring specialized levels of dexterity, sensory awareness and co-ordination.
∎ Use injection therapy skills E.g., Intra-articular and specific soft tissue techniques.
∎ Highly developed listening and communicating skills.
∎ Use of IT equipment.
∎ Physical Demands
∎ Moving and handling patients and equipment – using specialist and rehabilitation techniques and equipment; - occasionally.
∎ Therapeutic handling – using specialist and rehabilitation techniques and equipment – frequently e.g., joint manipulation, involving the movement and support of patient’s body parts weighing up to 15kg.
∎ Pushing wheelchairs and moving furniture e.g., beds/chairs – occasionally.
∎ Working with/moving and handling bariatric, very frail and vulnerable patients – occasionally.
∎ Mental Demands
∎ Maintaining high levels of concentration in clinical and strategic roles – listening, analyzing, and responding – regularly.
∎ Communicating with numerous agencies and services across the city
∎ Dealing with unpredictable events - occasionally (e.g., Response to patients collapsing with possible
∎ anaphylaxis).
∎ Dealing with a high volume of demand for advice and guidance from a wide range of different people.
∎ Dealing with regular interruptions and unpredictable events to planned work requiring post-holder to reprioritize workload as appropriate.
∎ Negotiation with staff, colleagues at all levels, patients and carers and ability to adapt approach in different situations – frequently.
∎ Change management with multi-faceted scenarios requiring assessment, advanced reasoning, evaluation and adjudication – regularly.
∎ Responding to urgent calls for action, comment and provision of information – occasionally (Request for support in preparing business cases or reports at short notice).
∎ Dealing regularly with cognitively and perceptually impaired patients – occasionally.

∎ Managing patients who have long term degenerative conditions, deteriorating prognosis, and difficult social, emotional, behavioral, mental health and communication issues – frequently (e.g., severe life-changing injuries sufficient to prevent normal activities of daily living).
∎ Communicating unwelcome news to patients and carers with regard to rehabilitation prospects and functional ability – frequently.
∎ Dealing with patients and/or carers who may be distressed, angry or confused – frequently.
∎ Dealing with challenging behaviors including working with people demonstrating verbal and/or physical

∎ Use of keyboard – frequently.
∎ Direct exposure to body fluids (blood, synovial fluid, during injections and aspirations - regularly).
∎ Working in unpleasant condition such as close contact with patients with poor personal hygiene – regularly.
∎ Frequent (weekly) requirement for travel to local, regional and national meetings.
∎ Exposure to ionizing radiation with the use of image intensifier – rarely.
∎ Professional Training & Experience: Doctoral/ Post Graduate Master’s degree in Musculoskeletal Management preferred
∎ Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy leading to Registration with the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC).
∎ Significant experience at expert clinical level assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions including at an “Advanced Practice” role.
∎ Completion of relevant, recognized, specialist clinical skills training e.g., certificated success in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy/ Orthopedic Medicine with injection therapy qualification. E.g.
∎ Masters/PGD
∎ Completion of relevant training in management and strategic leadership or equivalent demonstrable
