Job Context:
∎ The British Asian Trust is a diaspora-led international development organization, delivering high-quality programs in South Asia. We specialize in, and champion the use of, social finance products to drive positive change across the region. Our programs across South Asia are focused on the areas of education, livelihoods, anti-trafficking, mental health, and conservation. To end inequality and injustice in South Asia faster and more effectively, we try new approaches and are not afraid of taking risks.
∎ In 2019 we launched our programme in Bangladesh with great ambitions. Our first year was dominated by the COVID-19 pandemic and we were quick to respond, working with 3 reputable local partners to deliver mental health support for communities, education and learning interventions for out of school children and medical supplies and support to those who needed it most. Since then, several strategic conversations with our stakeholders and advisors have identified 3 key thematic areas for the British Asian Trust to focus on.
∎ Livelihoods: Enabling jobs and enterprises for young people and women through targeted, market-led skilling programs
∎ Mental Health: Supporting better mental health and wellbeing for communities and young people, through improved access to services
∎ Social Finance: Exploring opportunities for development and delivery of innovative finance mechanisms to address some of the challenges
∎ Employment Status: Contractual (3-6 months)
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Enabling the design and development of programs and partnerships for impact
∎ Building networks and scoping the sector to see where the organization can best add value
∎ Investing in and managing key strategic and funding relationships that will help the organization grow
∎ Ability to manage different Projects
Additional Requirements:
∎ Experience and understanding of the development/NGO sector desirable
∎ Good understanding of the development landscape in Bangladesh and the public, private and civil society institutions which operate here
∎ Experience of stakeholder or client management- existing relationships with businesses, NGOs and government institutions
∎ Ability to analyze, problem solve, and make recommendations based on clear and concise information and presentations
∎ Entrepreneurial, self-starter, able to work well, both, independently, as well as collaboratively with a team
