Education:
    • Bachelor of Law (LLB)

LL.B (Hons.) Laws related to negotiable instruments/criminal law/procedural law (evidence, stamp, court fees, civil and criminal procedure, judicial review, court rules)/ laws related to remedies and dispute resolution. Commercial law (including contract, sale of goods, company, competition, consumer protection, employment, property)/administrative law/intellectual property laws/technology laws and privacy and data protection laws or other relevant subjects from any reputed university.

Additional Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years, preferably in the Bangladesh court practice in subordinate courts and High Court after enrolment with Bangladesh Bar Council.

  • Excellent knowledge of the legal system, litigation, dispute resolution, and key laws (negotiable instruments, employment, contracts, commercial, intellectual property).

  • Skilled in legal research, statutory interpretation, and business understanding.

  • Proficient in computer use and fluent in Bangla and English (spoken, reading, writing).

  • Able to identify legal issues, draft pleadings, and assess legal, regulatory, reputational, and ethical risks.

  • Keeps legal knowledge current and maintains strong networks within the legal community.

  • Demonstrates accountability, problem-solving, attention to detail, clear communication, teamwork, adaptability, and integrity.

Job Purpose

The Associate Legal Counsel, Litigation will coordinate and monitor potential and existing litigation at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, including staff cases and high-value sensitive cases. The role will also assist in implementing measures to reduce the organisation’s legal risks and costs.

Location: Head Office

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor litigation to be filed or are pending before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh (High Court Division and Appellate Division) and coordinate with external counsel engaged for expeditious conclusion with minimal legal costs and risk.

  • Monitor litigation related to staff and high value cases which are to be filed or are pending at different courts and tribunals and coordinate with litigation team for expeditious conclusion with minimal legal risk.

  • Provide legal assessments on potential and ongoing litigation, on judgment and for filing, execution, appeal or settlement.

  • Draft and review pleadings and documents related to litigation/arbitration (including compromise and settlement) and pre-litigation documents (including legal notice, reply to legal notice, intellectual property infringement notices, and others).

  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal memorandum on laws, legal claims and legal issues.

  • Perform other department jobs, including operation/maintenance of Case Hub (online litigation database), compliance related tasks, and documentation reviews.

  • Communicate with regularly on activities with litigation team for performance of tasks.

  • Visit tribunals, courts, arbitration, govt. offices, law chambers, other BRAC offices, enterprises, and other places , if necessary for performance of tasks.

  • Provide reports on a regular basis and as directed or requested, to keep department managers informed regarding progress of litigation management and legal tasks assigned.

  • Understand and ensure organizational compliance organizational policies and procedures.

  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor and department time to time.

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme`s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
