Responsibilities & Context:
  • Hatchery Operations Management:
  • Supervise the entire hatchery process, from egg collection to chick delivery.
  • Ensure eggs are collected, sorted, and stored correctly before incubation.
  • Manage the incubation process, ensuring optimal temperature, humidity, and ventilation conditions are maintained in the incubators.
  • Oversee the hatching process, ensuring timely removal of chicks and quality checks to ensure high hatch-ability rates.Ensure proper handling and transportation of chicks after hatching to designated areas.
  • Team Leadership and Supervision:
  • Lead and manage hatchery staff, providing training and guidance on best practices for egg handling, incubation, and chick management.
  • Assign tasks to hatchery workers and monitor their performance to ensure productivity and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to discuss performance, issues, and improvements in hatchery operations.
  • Promote a safe, positive, and efficient working environment, ensuring that all team members follow company policies and procedures.
  • Biosecurity and Health Management:
  • Enforce strict biosecurity measures to prevent contamination, disease outbreaks, and to maintain the health of the chicks and breeding stock.
  • Ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed in all hatchery areas, including equipment, incubators, and storage rooms.
  • Monitor the health of chicks and identify any potential health issues, coordinating with veterinary teams as necessary for treatment or preventive care.
  • Quality Control and Monitoring:
  • Monitor egg quality, ensuring eggs are fertile and free of cracks or other defects before incubation.
  • Track hatch rates and identify any trends or issues affecting hatch-ability, implementing corrective actions when needed.
  • Perform regular checks on equipment (incubators, hatchers, temperature and humidity controls) to ensure proper functioning.
  • Inspect hatched chicks for signs of health problems, ensuring they meet company standards for weight, vigor, and quality.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of hatchery operations, including egg collection, incubation conditions, hatch rates, chick quality, and staff performance.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on hatchery performance, highlighting successes, challenges, and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that records are kept up-to-date for compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
  • Inventory and Resource Management:
  • Manage the inventory of hatchery supplies, including eggs, feed, medications, and equipment, ensuring sufficient stock levels are maintained.
  • Coordinate with procurement or inventory management teams to order new supplies as needed, avoiding stock-outs or delays in production.
  • Operational Efficiency:
  • Optimize hatchery operations to ensure maximum efficiency, improving processes and reducing waste where possible.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting hatchery performance, including equipment failures, staff shortages, or operational bottlenecks.
  • Continuously review and implement best practices to improve hatchery productivity and quality.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations in the hatchery.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, identify hazards, and take corrective actions to minimize risks.
  • Ensure staff follow proper personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols and maintain cleanliness in all hatchery areas.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., breeding, veterinary, farm management) to ensure smooth coordination of hatchery activities and production goals.
  • Maintain open communication with management regarding operational performance, challenges, and resource needs.
