∎ Stichting Cordaid is playing the lead role to implement EU funded "Sustained Opportunities for Nutrition Governance (SONGO) project" aims to improve maternal and child nutrition in Kurigram and Gaibandha districts. The SONGO is 5 years long project with 4 inter-linked outcomes; (1) Local nutrition governance and decision-making mechanisms are strengthened (2) Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Practices are improved (3) Household WASH Practices Improved (4) Household access to nutritious food is improved. RDRS Bangladesh has been Cordaid`s long standing partner in a variety of large poverty alleviation and development projects in Bangladesh, often with food security components. RDRS will implement the project activities such as community mobilization, capacity building, committee`s formation, meeting organization, workshops, monitoring, etc at a field level.
∎ SONGO is seeking a Technical Officer to contribute to building SONGO`s understanding of how the project is contributing to improving the nutrition specific and sensitive facets of the target community. The technical officer will play a frontline role in designing assessments, administering technology platforms and undertaking field assessments. This hands-on role requires a keen minded candidate, who is innovative in their approaches, can critically analyze and is a self-starter willing to take initiative.
∎ Working Conditions:
∎ The position is based in Gaibandha, Rangpur Division. Applicants must be willing to locate/relocate themselves if successful, and be capable of reasonable initiative and independence in the COVID-19 context.
∎ Working days from Sunday to Thursday with 40 hours per week. This position may be required to work some overtime hours to attend external meetings.
∎ From time to time local/day long travel may be required to reach different working and remote areas within the Gaibandha and Kurigram Districts.
∎ Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
∎ Yearly renewable the contract based on fund availability and performance.
∎ Following of Cordaid HR, Admin and Finance related policy.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Result areas, descriptions, and expertise:
∎ Contextualize and actualize assessment of main challenges and opportunities for nutrition improvement and infant and young child feeding practices.
∎ Contribute to the design and validation of intervention strategies, based on different types of research at different levels.
∎ Assist to select Nutrition Sales Agents (NSAs) and Community Facilitators at target unions.
∎ Train PNGO staff, community clinic representatives for quality service delivery to improve maternal and child nutrition.
∎ Establish a multi-stakeholder platform to establish nutrition governance at upazila level.
∎ Support nutrition multi-sectoral planning, budgeting, prioritization and implementation
∎ Assist to strengthen Adolescent Friendly Health Corners at Union Health and Family Welfare Centers
∎ Identify key food and nutrition messages, local Nutrition Sales Agents (NSA) and communication/ marketing channels with a specific focus on adolescents, mothers, infants and young children to address malnutrition.
∎ Assist to develop capacity building of NSAs for nutrition messaging and business nutrition business.
∎ Coordinate with government line department and other stakeholders at upazila level.
∎ Provide training to public agents (DAE, DLS, DoF) on the provision of incentives, technical and input support that improves climate resilient agricultural production and leverages the effects of the existing demonstration plots
∎ Establish networking relationships with the public-private sectors and other partner organizations.
∎ Establish strong working relationships with all consortium members and develop an in-depth understanding of the activities, support needs and strengths of each partner with regards their respective implementation.
∎ Support to implement the BCC toolkits such as mobile movies sessions, community session, individual counseling on MIYCF, WASH-Nut session and ICT based monitoring.
∎ Meeting with relevant (public and NGO sectors) stakeholders at Upazila level
∎ Contribute to form, sensitize and train inclusive Homestead Producer Groups, including (extreme) poor HHs members, promoting climate resilient production of divers and nutritious food, primarily for own consumption through direct and intensive skills and knowledge dissemination.
∎ Assist to establish linkage with the government and NGOs to get social protection services for extreme poor/vulnerable HHs
∎ Train private sector extension agents and create linkage between producers, input and output market actors for better price and farmer centre at Federation level
∎ Advocate to private sector, NGOs, Public Health sector, government, and other stakeholders on topics approved by the project.
∎ Ensure that planning and monitoring tools are developed and standardized, and that data is regularly collected, based on the overall PMEL mechanism.
∎ Compile and analyses monitoring data and produce monthly monitoring reports
Additional Requirements:
∎ Experience in the field of nutrition messaging/ Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) methodologies, nutrition business and homestead food production.
∎ Proven experience with multi-stakeholder platform (private and public sectors) will be added value for the position.
∎ Training facilitation skill for the capacity of PNGO staff, local government institution and other stakeholders.
∎ Working experience with government health and nutrition department specially community clinics.
∎ Willingness to drive motorcycle in remote areas.
∎ The ability to cope with basic living conditions in the field and willing to work any remote upazila of Gaibandha and Kurigram districts.
∎ Good computer skills in MS Office.
∎ Must hold a valid motorcycle driving license and be prepared to use the mode of transport as required.
∎ Desirable:
∎ Knowledge on governance, nutrition and livelihoods related experience.
∎ Exposure to themes on nutrition/health challenges in rural communities
