Responsibilities & Context:
Job Purpose
The Waste Management Supervisor will be responsible for planning, supervising, monitoring, and ensuring the safe collection, segregation, transportation, temporary storage, treatment, and disposal of all hospital waste in compliance with national regulations, Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) guidelines, and hospital policies.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise the segregation, collection, transportation, storage, treatment, and disposal of healthcare waste using the approved colour-coded system.
Ensure safe handling of infectious, pathological, sharps, pharmaceutical, chemical, recyclable, and general waste.
Supervise the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).
Ensure treated wastewater meets the Department of Environment (DoE) discharge standards.
Monitor STP equipment, sludge management, chemical usage, and operational records.
Conduct routine inspections of all hospital departments to ensure compliance with waste management and IPC protocols.
Supervise waste handlers, housekeeping staff, and STP operators, and ensure proper use of PPE.
Maintain waste generation, disposal, STP operation, and environmental compliance records.
Coordinate staff training on waste management, infection prevention, occupational safety, and emergency response.
Liaise with the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Committee, Engineering Department, and regulatory authorities.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports and perform any other duties assigned by the management.
