ExpiWell is a mobile platform built for experience sampling and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) research. We help researchers and clinicians collect real-time data from participants in their daily lives through intuitive mobile experiences and survey tools.
We are seeking a Senior / Staff iOS Native Software Engineer to own the technical direction, system design, and long-term evolution of the ExpiWell mobile ecosystem. This is a high-level engineering role requiring deep, battle-tested expertise in native Apple ecosystems.
This is not a generalist web or frontend JavaScript role. Our core platform is a native iOS application, and your foundational engineering strength must be rooted deeply in native Apple frameworks. However, because we are driving our transition toward a unified mobile platform, architectural experience with React Native and the JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem is a strict requirement. You will be the bridge that ensures our native infrastructure integrates seamlessly with our cross-platform future while adhering to rigorous clinical data standards.
To give you an exact picture of what you will be stepping into, our repository and architecture primarily center around:
Swift: Modern native core implementation, native modules, and platform architecture.
Apple Frameworks & Kits: Deep application of HealthKit, SensorKit, CoreLocation, and CoreMotion for participant telemetry and health metrics collection.
JavaScript / TypeScript: React Native expansion for shared business logic and cross-platform feature parity.
Architectural Leadership: Own the overarching architecture, design patterns, and technical roadmap for our production iOS (Swift) and React Native applications.
Biometric & Biomechanic Telemetry: Design and optimize data collection services that query and process passive/active research metrics using HealthKit and SensorKit.
Core Mobile Telemetry: Optimize hardware-level native services including location monitoring (CoreLocation) and motion processing frameworks (CoreMotion) for geofencing and location-based survey triggers.
Data Strategy & Privacy: Architect bulletproof offline-first data persistence layers using CoreData and Secure Keychain, adhering strictly to global compliance baselines (HIPAA, GDPR, and SOC 2).
Bridge Architecture: Write high-performance native bridging modules to connect native iOS Swift logic with our React Native and JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystems.
Legacy Modernization: Strategize and execute the incremental refactoring, modularization, and modernization of our legacy native codebases without interrupting active clinical research studies.
Release & Infrastructure Ownership: Direct the entire App Store submission pipeline, provisioning profiles, CocoaPods dependency management, and automated Xcode deployment infrastructure.
Expert-Level Native iOS Mastery: Deep professional experience in native iOS application development with a proven track record operating at a Senior, Lead, or Staff level.
Framework Expertise: Complete mastery of UIKit, Storyboards, Auto Layout, CoreLocation, CoreData, HealthKit, and SensorKit.
Compliance & Security Rigor: Solid understanding of building apps that strictly comply with HIPAA, GDPR, and SOC 2 Type 2 guidelines (end-to-end encryption at rest and in transit, access control enforcement, and audit logs).
Cross-Platform Competency: Production-grade architecture experience using JavaScript/TypeScript and React Native to build cross-platform feature parity.
Language Proficiency: Advanced command of Swift and modern native iOS architectures.
App Store Pedigree: Complete history of deploying, configuring, and maintaining highly rated commercial apps directly on the Apple App Store.
Experience designing flexible engines for complex dynamic forms, custom survey validation logic, or matrix questions.
Engineering background in health-tech, remote patient monitoring (RPM), or data-intensive research applications.
Experience building and scaling custom automated build pipelines (Fastlane, Xcode Cloud).
Understanding of broader cross-platform ecosystems, including Android execution environments.
Drive the technical vision for technology used globally in critical behavioral and health research.
