Responsibilities & Context:
- She/he shall be responsible for the initial clinical evaluation of the patient who will be taken for Radiation Therapy services which includes obtaining a history, performing a physical examination with close attention to the site(s) relevant to the diagnosis, reviewing pertinent diagnostic studies and reports, and communicating with the referring Radiation Oncologist Consultant and other appropriate physicians involved in the patient’s care when required.
- She/he shall be responsible for the documentation of the informed consent process with the patient’s signature, specific to that patient and diagnosis, that includes anticipated side effects, potential complications, availability of alternative treatment options and the benefits of having the treatment or not.
- She/he shall have overview of “Simulation of Treatment” which will include the technical supervision and patient-specific written orders for the simulation provided by the radiation oncologist.
- Assist consultants to determine and Contouring of organs at risk, gross tumor volume (GTV), clinical target volume (CTV) when applicable.
- Assist consultants in monitoring the progress of Patients receiving Radiation Therapy, checks entries in the treatment chart, and discussing the plan of therapy and any changes when appropriate.
- Assist consultants in reviewing Patients receiving Radiation Therapy by physical examination during treatment, laboratory and Imaging studies when appropriate.
- She/he shall be responsible for documentation of a summary of the Radiation treatment delivered including site treated, modality used, dose per fraction, total dose, elapsed time, treatment response (if applicable), relevant side effects (if applicable) and other observations after being communicated to the referring Consultant.
- Assist consultants in day-to-day management of patients under the supervision of consultant and guide the resident accordingly.
