Job Context:
∎ NIHR RIGHT4: Preventing Deaths from Acute Poisoning in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.
∎ To support the NIHR-funded RIGHT4 project on Preventing Deaths from Acute Poisoning in Low- and Middle-Income Countries via contributions to qualitative research on the social context of alcohol use/methanol poisoning and development and testing of point-of-care tests for methanol poisoning in Bangladesh.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Carry out qualitative data collection in community and health care settings including interviews, ethnographic observations, focus group discussions. (25%)
∎ Contribute to transcription and translation of interviews and FGDs. (20%)
∎ Contribute to organization, coding and analysis for a large qualitative data set (20%)
∎ Contribute to writing of academic publications, including at least one qualitative research article in an international peer-reviewed journal in the social sciences. (10%)
∎ Liaise with and maintain regular communication with project stakeholders (i.e., national policy makers, public health managers, development partners. (5%)
∎ Contribute to preparing and writing publications (e.g. blog posts, executive summaries, policy briefings) to communicate project findings to non-academic audiences, and present research publications at academic and policy conferences and meetings. (10%)
∎ Contribute to developing and updating research and ethical protocols and research tools relating to qualitative research for the RIGHT4 Centre. (5%)
∎ Contribute to the overall project activities (event organizing, producing content for website, data management and storage, participating in project meetings etc.). (5%)
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age 22 to 45 years
∎ At least three years' experience designing qualitative studies, carrying out qualitative data collection and analysis.
∎ Strong working command of English
∎ Demonstrable experience in writing for academic and non-academic audiences in English and Bangla
∎ Experience of using NVivo data analysis software effectively.
∎ Experience working with national policymakers and health managers.
∎ Ability to work independently but also as a member of a team, to work on own initiative and meet competing deadlines.
∎ Excellent analytical and communication skills, supported by good IT skills
∎ Excellent interpersonal skills including team working and a collaborative, collegiate approach, and the ability to establish and maintain personal working relationships with colleagues and project stakeholders.
∎ Excellent critical analysis skills and ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing, as demonstrated by published and/or unpublished work.
∎ Demonstrable understanding of ethical frameworks and a commitment to good governance practices for research
