Job Context:
∎ Bangladesh is going through record growth in GDP placing it amongst the world`s fastest-growing economies and one of the fastest-growing middle-income countries. Its purchasing power parity is now larger than most EU countries. As a result, Bangladesh is investing more than BDT 400 trillion ($500B) over the next 5 years on major infrastructure projects such as the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and the Padma Rail Link. While Bangladesh has a highly capable civil engineering sector, it is almost exclusively specialized in construction implementation. As a result, the adaptation of new technological developments that are more effective and cost-efficient is not adopted by the industry.
∎ We are looking for a research associate who will help us set the foundations for a new research and development team enabling us to take advantage of emerging and established technologies in the field of civil engineering. The ideal candidate is highly adaptable with a clear passion for new opportunities and has a demonstrable track record of success. A keen sense of ownership, effective teamwork, and strong communication skills are absolute requirements. The role will also involve collaborative research with Diamond Light Source and the University of Southampton.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Lead the scientific research agenda of the Bangladesh Material Testing laboratory
∎ Research relevant new technology and advise management of future direction
∎ Development of full-scale experiments and new technology prototypes in the laboratory
∎ Develop new testing facilities that are commercially viable
∎ Lead/assist in preparing research funding proposals and commercial tenders
∎ Present research in international conference
∎ Publish research in international peer-reviewed journals

Additional Requirements:
∎ The following are desirable:
∎ Strong background in laboratory experimental work, instrumentation, data acquisition and data interpretation in geotechnical/mechanical/material engineering
∎ Knowledge and experience with FE modelling using off-the-shelf software and/or own code
∎ Proven track record of publishing in international peer reviewed journals
∎ Chartered or working toward chartership with an internationally recognized body
∎ Experience of graduate mentoring and team management
∎ Experience with project management
∎ Knowledge and experience with Python/C programming language

Salary:
∎ USD 38,500 per annum (Discretionary range up to USD 60,000)
