∎ WorldFish Bangladesh and South Asia is hiring Research Assistant funded by USAID funded ‘ECOFISH II’ in order to meet its vision: “Be the research partner of choice, delivering high impact, transformative and equitable fisheries and aquaculture solutions to reduce poverty and malnutrition in Bangladesh and South Asia”. The key objective of the ECOFISH II project is improved social and ecological resilience of coastal fisheries securing equitable food, nutrition and income benefits for fishing communities. The position is located at Teknaf but work closely with Saint Martin Island.

∎ Post level: Nationally Recruited Staff
∎ Type of contract: 9-months fixed-term contract (option to renew based on performance and budget)
∎ Language(s) required: English (proficient/fluent writing and oral skills)

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Will undertake field level activities of ECOFISH II under the supervision of the /Scientist (IR-1: Fish Population Biology)/ Research Associate (as local supervisor) of the respective Field Research site.
∎ Motivate project target community jointly with partners' organizations for ensuring peoples' active participation in project activities.
∎ Prepare monthly work plan, implement activities in line with project Intermediate Results (IRs) and submit the report on activities accomplishment including the constraints and measures to overcome the constraints.
∎ Will collect and compile all necessary field data relevant to fishers, fish catch and landing, biodiversity, ecosystem and relevant issues, and conduct sampling as per instructions from supervisors.
∎ Keep effective liaison with the government agencies and monitor the activities of partner organizations.
∎ Provide and organize training to the target beneficiaries; transfer knowledge to the fishers, and community people for better management of Hilsa and other major marine and coastal fish species and conserve biodiversity.
∎ Promote farming of seaweed, green mussel and crab for fishers’ alternate income generating activities.
∎ Organize and facilitate group meetings with target people of the project for changing behavior of the relevant stakeholders; and
∎ Any other task assigned by supervisors as per need.

Additional Requirements:
∎ This job is open to Bangladesh Nationals with the following skills and qualifications:
∎ Minimum 2 years work experience in Community Based Fisheries Management or Fisheries or Aquaculture development and extension project with focus on field based research activities.
∎ Past experience with similar job will be given preference.
∎ Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English with strong writing skills.
∎ Able to undertake regular field work, traveling by motorbike/ boat.
∎ Should have valid motorbike driving license and proven ability of swimming.
∎ Experience may be relaxed for candidate having exceptional academic result at graduate level and research skills.
∎ Desired Skills and Qualification

∎ Ability to both work in and assist team.
∎ Committed and motivated.

Salary:
∎ This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with an annual salary ranging between BDT720,467/- to BDT810,526 /- per annum.

∎ WorldFish NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension / provident fund contribution.
