Job Context:
∎ Date of Joining: ASAP to 31 March 2020 (initial contract end date),with high possibility of extension of contract based on requirement & performance.
∎ In this role, you will be employed and contracted by iSocial, Girl Effect’s local partner in Bangladesh, and hosted in their office in Dhaka. However, you will work solely on TEGA, a Girl Effect project. You will report to Girl Effect’s Research team in London, and work closely with iSocial’s and Girl Effect’s Project Management teams.
∎ Context of the role:
∎ TEGA is currently active in seven countries – Bangladesh, Nigeria, Rwanda, Malawi, India, the US and Tanzania. In Bangladesh, we have four TEGA networks spread across the country. Over the last 18 months we have brought together a consortium of some of the leading NGOs in Bangladesh, including Nutrition International, CARE, UNFPA and Population Council, who we are working with closely so that they can use our research to inform their programme design. This model aims to ensure our insights bring about positive change for marginalized girls across Bangladesh.
∎ We have recently completed our final share out event with Research Consortium partners and we now require a Research and Project Manager with experience of delivering innovative research to support the establishment of new research partnerships and projects for the TEGA networks in Bangladesh. As part of this role you will lead the design, analysis and reporting of TEGA research delivered by these networks for our external partners, and will provide Project Management oversight to head office project team. You will need to work collaboratively with possible NGO partners of Girl Effect to create and design research projects that meet their needs. Therefore, we are looking for someone who has experience in Project Management, working with development or private sector partners as well as research to manage operations and work in partnership with multiple organisations. This is a great opportunity to work with our innovative, tech-based, peer research methodology which is at the cutting edge of the international development and media sectors, working to create a new normal for adolescent girls in Bangladesh.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ A. Research, Monitoring and Evaluation:
∎ Work closely with senior members of the iSocial team to develop concept notes and design research projects for prospective partners
∎ Work closely with clients throughout the research process and share research findings back with partners in engaging ways.
∎ Work closely with the iSocial and GE teams to ensure TEGA networks in Bangladesh conduct consistently high quality research which leads to authentic insight into girls’ lives.
∎ Support iSocial and capacity build the TEGAs to deliver robust research that meets the objectives set by partners.
∎ Provide technical support to research implementation, ensuring that methods, tools, ethical and safeguarding standards, and field implementation are high quality
∎ Ensure research is consistently designed to adhere to lean research principles, is youth friendly and insights driven
∎ B. Analysis and Reporting:
∎ Lead analysis of qualitative research projects, with the support of other TEGA colleagues globally. Use strong qualitative analysis techniques to gather key findings
∎ Create reports and presentations that present actionable insights from the data.
∎ Deliver clear and engaging reports including insightful research findings and useful recommendations for partners. Working closely with partners and the internal team to ensure reports meet their needs.
∎ C. Project Management - including liaison with implementing agencies:
∎ Work closely with the TEGA teams at iSocial (especially the Project Officer) and Girl Effect to ensure smooth project management, communication and research processes
∎ Line management of Project Officer and District Officers
∎ Track teams’, agencies’ and local partners’ deliverable and flag/ rectify if they are off track in terms of time-frame and/or budget
∎ Manage ongoing dialogue with the TEGA Bangladesh Research Consortium in close collaboration with the TEGA Partnerships team
∎ Liaise with the iSocial and Girl Effect TEGA or Operations/HR teams on contract management, invoicing and budgeting
∎ Manage ongoing safety/safeguarding assessments in TEGA locations in conjunction with
∎ D. Girl Effect and iSocial’s Safeguarding Officers:
∎ Support Project Officer to manage tech tech and tech troubleshooting
∎ Organise and lead project meetings (for internal and external projects)
∎ E. Learning and sharing:
∎ Support the Senior Manager, Evidence in driving innovation and quality in evidence and insight generation, through continual reflection on and contribution to strengthening TEGA research design and implementation
∎ Actively contribute to sharing and learning across the global TEGA team through accessible and engaging research reporting and presentation, participation in research uptake workshops and acting as an approachable and reliable contact for colleagues across Girl Effect when evidence queries arise
∎ Produce, with the support of Girl Effect’s communications team, engaging research briefings, reports and other knowledge products for external dissemination
∎ Share learning and best practice with peers across the global TEGA team
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at most 40 years
∎ At least three years’ full-time experience in social or commercial qualitative research, with a focus on emerging markets or Global South
∎ Experience in qualitative research tool development, fieldwork, data analysis and reporting. Experience of youth-centered and participatory approaches a bonus.
∎ Demonstrated skills in producing high quality, innovative and engaging research presentations and briefings for diverse audiences
∎ Extensive project management experience within either an NGO or a technology or research organisation with proven success in project managing complex, multi-geography projects with multiple stakeholders
∎ Experience of conducting training or facilitation, particularly using participatory techniques
∎ Experience of managing a team
∎ Have a strong network of connections within Bangladesh
∎ Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity about the cultures within which Girl Effect operates
∎ Experience working remotely with colleagues and/or field agencies and ability to work effectively in multicultural teams with varying expertise, skills and backgrounds
∎ Creative and inquisitive mindset
∎ Ability to communicate and build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, consultants, vendors and clients
∎ Commitment to realizing the potential of girls and to the vision and values of Girl Effect
∎ Fluent Bengali and English speaker
∎ Willingness to travel up to 25%
