Responsibilities & Context:

1. Nephrology Patient Assessment – Ability to assess, diagnose, and monitor patients with renal and electrolyte disorders.

2. Hemodialysis Patient Management – Knowledge of pre-dialysis, intra-dialysis, and post-dialysis patient care.

3. Management of Dialysis Complications – Ability to recognize and provide initial management for hypotension, hypertension, cramps, bleeding, infection, and other dialysis-related complications.

4. Fluid & Electrolyte Management – Competency in monitoring fluid balance and managing electrolyte and acid-base abnormalities.

5. Vascular Access Care – Knowledge of monitoring and identifying complications related to AV fistula, AV graft, and dialysis catheters.

6. Acute Kidney Injury Management – Ability to assess and manage patients with AKI and identify indications for urgent dialysis.

7. Chronic Kidney Disease Management – Understanding of CKD progression, associated complications, medication considerations, and renal replacement therapy.

8. Emergency & Critical Care Skills – Ability to respond promptly to medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest and acute deterioration of dialysis patients.

9. Clinical Documentation & Interpretation – Proficiency in maintaining accurate medical records and interpreting renal function tests, electrolytes, CBC, ABG, and other relevant investigations.

10. Patient Counseling & Communication – Ability to effectively counsel patients and attendants regarding dialysis, medication adherence, fluid/dietary restrictions, vascular access care, and follow-up.
