Responsibilities & Context:
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill infants, children, and adolescents admitted to the PICU.

  • Conduct regular patient reviews and participate in daily PICU rounds.

  • Develop and implement appropriate treatment and critical care management plans.

  • Manage pediatric emergencies, respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, trauma, post-operative complications, and multi-organ dysfunction.

  • Provide appropriate management of patients requiring mechanical ventilation and other advanced respiratory support.

  • Perform or assist with essential PICU procedures, including airway management, intubation, central/arterial line placement, and other critical care procedures as per competency.

  • Respond promptly to pediatric emergencies and participate in resuscitation activities.

  • Coordinate patient care with Consultants, Pediatricians, Surgeons, Anesthetists, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Monitor patients' clinical condition, laboratory results, vital signs, and response to treatment.

  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding the patient's condition, treatment, and prognosis.

  • Maintain accurate medical records, progress notes, and treatment documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical protocols, infection prevention practices, and patient safety standards.

  • Participate in clinical audits, CME programs, case discussions, teaching, and quality improvement activities.

  • Provide guidance and support to junior doctors and PICU nursing staff when required.
