Job Overview
The Transmission Manager/Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the Transmission network & optical fiber network infrastructure planning, deployment, maintenance, fault management, restoration, network expansion, and field team activities.
The position will ensure high network availability, fast fault resolution, efficient resource utilization, and quality customer service by seamless management of transmission engineers, fiber technicians & third-party vendors.
The role requires strong technical knowledge of transmission technologies, fiber-optic infrastructure, splicing and ISP operations, along with effective team and vendor management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee daily operations, maintenance, and performance of the ISP transmission and fiber network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, stability, redundancy, and SLA compliance.
Monitor transmission links, equipment, interfaces, alarms, optical levels, and network utilization while coordinating with NOC and relevant technical teams to ensure smooth service delivery.
Lead fault and incident management activities, including identification, troubleshooting, escalation, and restoration of fiber and transmission-related issues such as fiber cuts, high-loss links, equipment failures, power issues, and customer-impacting outages.
Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major and recurring incidents, establish corrective and preventive actions, and ensure continuous improvement in network reliability and restoration performance.
Support planning, execution, and monitoring of FTTH/FTTx network expansion projects, including fiber deployment, route planning, splicing, termination, testing, and technical acceptance activities.
Supervise fiber installation, splicing, and testing activities using OTDR, optical power meter, VFL, and other fiber-testing tools while ensuring proper optical performance, labeling, documentation, and quality standards.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans for fiber infrastructure, transmission equipment, and OSP assets to minimize service disruption and identify potential risks proactively.
Lead and manage fiber operations teams, including engineers, supervisors, technicians, and field personnel by allocating tasks, monitoring performance, providing technical guidance, and ensuring operational readiness.
Manage third-party service providers, contractors, and vendors by monitoring service quality, productivity, compliance, technical support, and ensuring completed work meets approved design, quality, and safety standards.
Maintain accurate documentation of fiber routes, splice diagrams, core allocation, network topology, GIS records, asset information, fault history, maintenance activities, and operational reports.
Ensure proper inventory management of fiber cables, closures, TJBs, FDBs, splitters, ODF, patch panels, tools, and critical spare materials required for smooth operations.
Ensure compliance with company standards, safety procedures, change management processes, and quality requirements during network deployment, maintenance, and restoration activities.
Coordinate with Customer Support, NOC, Core Network, and other departments to resolve customer-impacting issues, prioritize critical outages, and support enterprise and high-priority customer restoration.
Monitor operational KPIs including network availability, fault resolution time, MTTR, recurring incidents, preventive maintenance compliance, and service performance, providing improvement recommendations to management.
Perform any other technical, operational, or management-related tasks assigned by the supervisor or management.
