∎ The project aims to support the Rohingya Refugees and the Host Communities living in Teknaf Upazila and facilitating their access to improved sanitation facilities, personal hygiene and hand washing facilities. It is expected that the proposed interventions in the selected host communities would bring sustained behavioral change and reduction of health risks associated with water and sanitation related diseases. Through the project, Organization expects to reach extreme vulnerable groups and to provide them with direct assistance for identified WASH needs, by coordinating with and complementing the existing WATSAN/WASH programmes of the Government of Bangladesh, DPHE, UNICEF, UPs, BDRCS, UN agencies, international NGOs and local/national NGOs working, LGIs and Upazila administration in Cox`s Bazar.
∎ Under the overall supervision of the Project Coordinator and direct supervision of WATSAN Manager, the Hygiene Officer will be responsible and accountable for the implementation of Hygiene Promotion and WASH activities in the designated area of duty in Teknaf, Cox`s Bazaar district. S/he will be based in Teknaf area - Camp 27 and Camp 24 and will have extensive travel to project site for accomplishing his/her responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Carry out regular field visits to project sites to monitor overall hygienic environment and cleanliness of sanitation services. Take necessary measures for rectification with support from beneficiary community
∎ Promote participation of beneficiary communities in programme implementation process and seek their commitment for future maintenance
∎ Extensively support Hygiene Promoters/Volunteers (HP) field staffs in delivery of effective community awareness programs including adoption of best practices and proven approaches
∎ Facilitate on-the-job training to build capacity of field staffs/volunteers on hygiene promotion activities and dissemination of hygiene promotion sessions through technical advice and guidance.
∎ Represent organization as required for WATSAN Manager in cluster meetings and/or other networks.
∎ Contribute in data collection and data processing of health-related information and use such information for improvement of hygiene behavior
∎ Validate the relevance of the hygiene awareness related messages considering cultural sensitivity and adaptable capacity of beneficiary community
∎ Support to conduct research/surveys on effectiveness and appropriateness of interventions within the project area; lead the handling of community based interventions data and to prepare the project related report including database updating
∎ Communicate with local stakeholders in order to find efficient and effective solutions to the hygiene related problems on the ground
∎ Undertake regular field visits to project sites to monitor progress of activities and provide regular feedback from/on field trip as required; Take part in community meetings and activities organized by the project
∎ Conduct regular house visit with staff and follow-up hygiene practice, provide constructive feedback for improvement.
∎ Submit periodic report to the supervisor for compilation as and when required and assist in compiling periodic reports submitted by actors and update to supervisor
∎ Provide mentorship to community leaders and beneficiaries, and facilitate weekly camp cleaning campaign with the support from IP and wider community
∎ Assist the WASH Coordinator and Project Coordinator in developing plans of action to ensure timely and successful implementation of WASH activities
∎ Perform any other responsibilities assigned by Management
Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum of four (04) years related work experience (or two years for candidates holding University degree) in managing community-based WASH projects and working with local communities including partner agencies
∎ University degree from an accredited academic institution preferably in Public Health, Social Sciences, Urban Development or related field
∎ Diploma degree with combination of relevant training and experience in this field
∎ Work experience with international humanitarian organizations, multi-national companies, on-government organizations in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage
∎ Good knowledge of the WASH situation of Rohingya refugee population and local dialect of Cox's Bazaar district
∎ Minimum 5-years of experience in working with NGO / INGOs - Humanitarian organizations
∎ A professional with very good interpersonal skills, results-oriented, flexible, organized and systematic, attention to details, team player but also the ability to work independently.
∎ Good comment of English and Bangla is required. Speaking of local language is an advantage.
∎ Good computer skill is an additional qualification
∎ Willing to travel in remote areas
∎ Willingness to be based in the field.
∎ Commitment to working with Humanitarian organization.
