RHSTEP, a pioneer non-government organization with over three decades of experience in promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in Bangladesh, is launching the project "Unlocking Youth Potential for SRHR and Health System Reform in Bangladesh" to address critical gaps in adolescent health, SRHR, and health system equity. With operations in 20 districts and annual service provision to approximately 650,000 individuals through 27 centers, RHSTEP remains at the forefront of delivering essential SRHR services, education, and awareness.
The health landscape in Bangladesh faces significant challenges due to systemic underfunding, social barriers, and gaps in service delivery, disproportionately affecting adolescents. Cultural taboos, inadequate SRHR facilities, and declining public health expenditures hinder access to vital services, forcing many young people, especially girls, to compromise their education and health. Early marriages further perpetuate health risks and poverty cycles.
Youth and students play a crucial role in nation-building, driving innovation and advocacy for equitable health services. Their involvement can enhance community-led initiatives and break cultural barriers surrounding SRH. They advocate for Universal Health Coverage and increased health resources, leveraging technology to improve service access and transparency.
Through this new project, RHSTEP aims to empower youth and students to take on leadership roles as champions of health equity, innovators in digital health solutions, and advocates for systemic reforms. The initiative will focus on fostering community engagement, grassroots mobilization, and technology-driven solutions to tackle challenges such as gender inequities, social stigmas, and gaps in SRHR services.
Key activities under the project include
Champions of Health Equity and Accessibility
Mobilizers of Grassroots Action
Agents of Behavioral Change
Monitors of Accountability and Transparency

By integrating youth voices into policy dialogues, fostering behavioral change, and promoting gender-sensitive approaches, the project aligns with Bangladesh's commitments to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 and 5, ensuring a sustainable, inclusive, and equitable health system for all. This initiative represents a transformative opportunity to redefine Bangladesh’s SRHR landscape, address deep-rooted disparities, and build a stronger, youth-centered health system.
