Job Context:
∎ DMP desires to empower and encourage the students of `Diploma in Midwifery` to develop their
∎ confidence and skills and make use of them in taking important decisions throughout their life. The Counselor (female) will support creating an environment that fosters personal growth and physiological wellbeing of the students through direct counseling, need-based education etc. and will contribute to the development of the student`s academic, behavioural and social growth. She will provide special support to the students to prevent and also during psychological crisis.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Listen to students' concerns about academic, emotional, or social problems and refer to concern persons and or institutions
∎ Help the students to resolve the issues raised by the students and offer empathy and support
∎ Aware and ensure practice of self-respect among the students
∎ Pay attention to cultural and societal differences in dealing with the students
∎ Investigate and report immediately for any incident or allegation/ concerns of students. Advising the students on their personal problems and helps them to resolve it
∎ As focal person for hotline service, respond immediately and appropriately with confidentiality.
∎ Hold various sessions with the students to explore the problems that the students face and try to understand their troubles and advise them as required
∎ Attend the parents meeting at the Academic Sites and keep guardian/parents update about student's behavioral and other problems
∎ Determine the actions need to be taken to support the students upon prior discussion with Head of Programme by maintaining confidentiality of all incidents reported and stored safely
∎ Implement and track progress of the guideline developed by DMP to remove barriers and create enabling environment and advancing the empowerment of the students and graduate midwives
∎ Conduct trainings on the gender policy for students, teaching staff and other management staff who are related with DMP activities
∎ Assist the Midwifery Education Team to review the module on psychology for midwives
∎ Assist the students for functioning of student welfare committee, electing students leaders, suggestion box management and addressing any issues related to student's development and or leadership etc.
∎ Assess staff needs and conduct need based sessions/workshops in Faculty development Training
∎ Organize need based workshop/session for the students
Additional Requirements:
∎ 3-5 years of professional experience preferably as Counselor for adolescents & young adults
∎ Have extensive knowledge on physical, mental & social wellbeing of adolescent and young adults
∎ Willing to visit Academic Sites min 40% time every month, and other rural/urban areas as required
∎ Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and the ability to connect with people from a variety of backgrounds
∎ Proficiency in English
∎ Have an in-depth knowledge of gender related issues
∎ A non-judgmental outlook and willingness to work with all kinds/tiers of people
∎ Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to maintain confidentiality
