Job Responsibilities:
∎ Nursing Administration:
∎ Models organization's core values and promotes translation of these values into work practices.
∎ Ensure quality standards are maintained: ISO & JCI
∎ Develops short and long-term goals and objectives for the unit.
∎ Assists Chief Nursing Officer /DCNO in making any necessary adjustments in nursing service operations, that shall ensure quality nursing care.
∎ Coordinates and supports all departmental services and team to ensure the services offered are delivered as planned.
∎ Accepts accountability for services through which direct nursing care is given to patients.
∎ Acts as advocate of patient safety in the units and other departments as and when required.
∎ Meets with Unit Supervisors and staff nurses under her supervision on regular basis at least monthly, to communicate information, to identify problems and solving them to improve customer satisfaction.
∎ Maintains SOP for the staff nurses and ensures that the same is maintained by the Unit Supervisor and their staff nurses.
∎ Participates in performance of each staff nurse and verifies the performance evaluation done by Unit Supervisors for the staff in their units.
∎ Promotes and maintains a good working relationship among nursing personnel, medical staff, other hospital employees, patients and public.
∎ Contributes to the achievement of cost efficiency savings in the service and maintains an awareness of resource utilization, exercising care in the ordering and use of equipment and materials.
∎ Ensures customer-friendly service and promotes it through role modeling to the staff.
∎ Maintains an effective and open line of communication.
∎ Participates in nursing policy formulation and decision-making.
∎ Patient Service Quality:
∎ Ensures that a sufficient number of competent personnel are available for each shift to meet the nursing needs of clients and supervise assigned personnel to ensure proper nursing care services are provided.
∎ Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of nursing care, including documentation, and makes appropriate changes in nursing care delivery and overall organization of the unit.
∎ Conducts frequent rounds and verifies the checklists to ensure readiness of the equipments, medication room, beds and to resolve service/quality issues with follow through.
∎ Provides patient feedback summary reports at routine intervals for units.
∎ Responsible for Quality Indicators and monitoring the deviations. Analyze and interprets the data and communicates the same to the Unit Supervisors and plans for the improvement.
∎ Conduct sessions for the staff nurse related to quality improvement and sets smart targets in coordination with quality team.
∎ Nursing Training:
∎ Identifies the training needs of Nursing staffs.
∎ Performs planning, organizing and conducting Nursing educational activities at unit/ department/ organization levels according to hospital policies and service needs.
∎ Prepares the content for Induction and CNE Modules.
∎ Prepares timely monthly training schedule and communicate the same to the Unit Supervisors for implementation.
∎ Performs 100% Nursing Departmental Induction and Unit Induction for all new nursing staffs.
∎ Uses effective training methodologies to impart requisite knowledge and skills to nursing staffs
∎ Conduct post induction test.
∎ Ensuring 4 hours CNE for staff nurses in a month. Monitors 100% attendance of staff, communicates the same to department Unit Supervisor.
∎ Periodic evaluation of staff performance: Conducts assessments of all mandatory trainings and year end competency assessment.
∎ Coordinates with other departments in the Hospital for conducting specialty training modules for nursing staff.
∎ Compiles and analyzes all training related data in word and excel formats. Prepares presentations as required.
∎ Supervise and ensures zero loss of articles and equipment from training room, demonstration room.
∎ Ensures conducive environment for teaching and learning.
∎ Give inputs in innovation and change in training methods as appropriate.
∎ Participates in hospital and intra-hospital meetings and conferences.
∎ Interprets the hospital and Nursing policy to the Nursing staff.
∎ Participates in professional and community activities.
∎ Conducts regular audits on effectiveness of nursing care.
∎ Takes part in quality improvement and ensures compliance and adherence to accreditation protocols.
∎ Assist in identifying the area specific Nursing indicators and trains nursing staff to achieve targets.
∎ Prepares tools for various purposes related to Nursing Education and Nursing care.
∎ Adheres to all hospital policies and Nursing code of conduct.
∎ Perform and participates in Hospital Codes and ensures that nursing staff are aware of the management.
∎ Performs all other tasks as required by the department.
∎ Clinical Risk and Safety Management:

∎ Ensures compliance of unit, department and hospital policies and procedures.
∎ Directs and facilitates continuous quality improvement initiatives and activities.
∎ Contributes ideas and action plans for nursing quality improvement.
∎ Ensures that all equipment is well maintained and in working order at all times.
∎ Facilitates and review with staff the incident occurrence reports and to ensure action plans are implemented to prevent future occurrences.

∎ Human Resource Management & Staff Development:

∎ Ensures appropriate orientation, training and continuing education for nursing personnel to maintain the level of competency of the unit.
∎ Nurtures staff development through mentoring and role modelling, i.e, by promoting and facilitating competency-based training and in-service education in the unit.
∎ Identify training needs of the nurses in the unit.
∎ Provides a climate conducive to educational experience for newly joined nurses.
∎ Encourage participation and involvement of nursing staff in nursing committees.
∎ Acts as a resource person to the Chief Nursing Officer/DCNO on matters pertaining to the unit.
∎ Acts as a mediator in situations of conflict or grievance.
∎ Acts as a liaison officer between Chief Nursing Officer and DCNO/Unit Supervisors.
∎ Provides counselling to staff/patients as and when situation arises.
∎ Promotes professional growth and development of self and subordinates and peers through seminars and professional affiliation.
∎ Supervises, evaluates and appraises staff work performance based on their job descriptions.
∎ Makes staff duty schedule to ensure that there is qualified & skilled staff available in adequate proportion to patient cases and census.
∎ Ensures cost control and efficient use of manpower.
∎ Performs any other duties as directed by the Chief Nursing Officer/DCNO
