Responsibilities & Context:
∎ 1. Liaises with Director Medical Services in the implementing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating of all operational policies and procedures involving Nursing Department.
∎ 2.Submit monthly report and other reports as and when requested on the progress.
∎ 3. Receives and reviews Nursing Unit reports daily, updates self on any other changes since last duty, using all available resources.
∎ 4. Conducts periodic nursing rounds on all Units to assess the condition of patients, continues to monitor post-operative and critical patients and follow up on night emergency admissions.
∎ 5. Reports significant patient information and Unit activities directly to the Director Medical Services with pertinent twenty-four-hour information.
∎ 6. Ensures staff compliance with established policies and procedures: Provides clinical guidance and supervision of nursing personnel in activities directed toward maintaining standards of patient care, safety, infection control and professional behavior.
∎ 7. Investigates policy/ Procedure violations, takes appropriate action regarding incidents and initiates the completion of incident reports.
∎ 8. Ensures that the all-routine daily management of patients and emergency management of patients are adequately equipped with the required resources. Resources include human resources, physical and other consumables resources.
∎ 8. Ensures that nursing cares of patients are carried out according to status and condition of patient.
∎ 10. Ensures those individualized care concepts (Nursing Process) are being implemented to achieve quality care of patients.
∎ 11. Takes immediate action to deal with emergencies, informs appropriate authority as required and advises senior administrative staff of any unusual occurrences. Coordinates various disciplines to facilitate emergency patient care.
∎ 12. Makes recommendations regarding performance evaluations of Unit nursing staff, provides guidance and counseling as needed. Encourages and enables staff development.
∎ 13. Provides coverage for unscheduled absenteeism and changes in patient acuity makes changes in work schedule as necessary and authorizes overtime/bank nurse as required.
∎ 14. Maintains precise record of nursing sick leave, notes and reports significant trends in sick leave and prepares sick leave statistics as required.
∎ 15. Collates 24 hours inpatient and bed census, assists in preparation of work schedule.
∎ 16. Assists to coordinate new nurse’s clinical experience when posted to the respective hospital.
∎ 17. Assists to identify appropriate resource person in enhancing the effectiveness of training program.
∎ 18. Complies with all Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures.
∎ 19. Fully receptive and supportive in the activities that contribute towards continuous improvement of nursing services e.g. Infection Control, Quality Improvement programs, Nursing educational program, Fire and Safety Program and other related hospital activities.
∎ 20. Assumes responsibility for special projects as requested, attends meetings and participates in Committee activities as required and provides feedback to the Director Medical Services.
∎ 21. Maintains self-professional growth and development.
∎ 22. Exercises professionalism and is accountable for her actions..
∎ 23. Assists with planning and implementation of Unit budget.
∎ 24. Performs other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of her knowledge, skills and abilities.
∎ 25.To take reasonable care at work for the safety of yourself and other persons;
∎ 26. To co-operate with your employer or any other person in the discharge of any duty;
∎ 27. To wear or use any protective equipment or clothing provided by the employer;
∎ 28. To comply with any instruction or measure on Occupational Safety and Health.
∎ 29. This Job Description of the Chief Nursing Officer is subject to periodic review and may be changed at any time in consultation with the employee.
∎ 30. Performs any other job-related duties not specified in this Job Description when assigned by Director Medical Services or Hospital Management.
∎ 31. Performs extra duties when called upon especially in an emergency.
