∎ Job Purpose: The Head of the Laboratory is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the laboratory operations. This role involves ensuring the highest standards of quality, accuracy and efficiency in laboratory testing and maintaining compliance with Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation standards and national regulations. The Head of the Laboratory will oversee a team of laboratory professionals, drive process improvement initiatives, and manage the laboratory’s budget and resources.
∎ Establish and maintain rigorous quality assurance protocols in alignment with JCI standards.
∎ Regularly review and improve laboratory testing processes to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
∎ Conduct internal audits to maintain quality standards.
∎ Oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring timely and efficient workflow.
∎ Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory processes.
∎ Implement corrective actions in response to any operational or compliance issues.
∎ Lead, mentor and develop a skilled team of lab technicians, technologists and support staff, etc.
∎ Conduct regular performance evaluations, identify training needs and promote professional development.
∎ Foster a collaborative and productive work environment to encourage team motivation and retention.
∎ Ensure laboratory practices align with JCI accreditation standards and other applicable national/ international guidelines.
∎ Maintain up-to-date documentation and records for all regulatory audits and accreditation requirements.
∎ Manage the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
∎ Monitor inventory levels, reorder supplies and manage vendor relationships to avoid disruptions in lab services.
∎ Develop and manage the laboratory's budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
∎ Monitor expenses, optimize operational costs and justify budget needs to upper management.
∎ Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of laboratory data to support clinical decision-making.
∎ Ensure confidentiality and accuracy in patient records and test results, in line with hospital policies and ethical guidelines.
∎ Stay updated on the latest advances in laboratory science and technology.
