Organization Overview: Banchte Shekha is a renowned non-governmental organization (NGO) in Bangladesh, established in 1976 by Angela Gomes, a prominent social worker and advocate for women’s empowerment. The name translates to "Learn to Live" in English, reflecting its mission to empower disadvantaged communities, particularly women and children, through education, skill development, and social advocacy. Banchte Shekha is going to implement a project named "The Meaningful Participation and Inclusion of Children and Youth with Disabilities in All Domains of Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR)" in Jashore district which is Financially and Technically supported by the Lilian Fonds and Centre for Disability in Development (CDD). This collaboration between the Lilian Fonds and CDD highlights the importance of empowering Children and Youth with Disabilities and integrating their needs into mainstream community development. By addressing barriers and fostering inclusion, the project will contributes to building more equitable and accessible societies.
Job Overview: The Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Officer will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and supporting inclusive CBR activities in the community. This role focuses on ensuring the active participation and empowerment of children and youth with disabilities across all domains of CBR, including education, health, livelihoods, social participation, and empowerment. The CBR Officer will collaborate closely with families, community stakeholders, and service providers to create an enabling and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Mobilize local communities to actively engage in and participate in CBR activities.
Within the framework of the CBR matrix, work with families and communities to identify, implement, and establish measures to empower persons with disabilities in sustainable ways.
Collaborate with families and communities to undertake relevant activities to prevent disabilities. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting talks on prevention, identification, referral, and follow-up tailored to each family’s needs and addressing their questions.
Conduct home visits to persons with disabilities and provide training to enhance their skills and abilities, enabling their participation in family and social life.
Provide social support to children with disabilities and their families.
Identify and refer children with disabilities requiring care to the appropriate services.
Conduct follow-ups for persons referred to services and care facilities.
Encourage communities to offer economic empowerment opportunities in inclusive ways.
Participate in the planning, effective organization, and reporting of community outreach programs.
Collaborate with local government services and authorities to provide support to children and youth with disabilities.
Partner with NGOs to implement sustainable interventions for children with disabilities.
Work closely with persons with disabilities, actively involving them in program activities.
Undertake local resource mobilization initiatives to support children with disabilities.
Raise awareness among households and communities about Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) health, as well as mental health (MH).
Identify and refer individuals suspected of having ENT or mental health problems to appropriate health facilities.
Educate households and communities on basic hygiene and sanitation practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Complete individual rehabilitation plans (IRPs) using logbooks aligned with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF).
Assist in organizing medical camps within the community.
Supervise the daily activities of CBR workers.
Support individuals in obtaining disability identification cards and securing educational stipends for children and youth with disabilities.
Job Location: The job is based in Jashore district but with regular travel to upazila and union level for implementation of project activities smoothly.
