Experience:
Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of AQL, garment construction, and fabric quality. Proficiency in quality tools and reporting systems.
✦ Deep understanding of fabric testing methods (GSM, shrinkage, colour fastness, pilling, tensile strength)
✦ Familiarity with testing standards: AATCC, ASTM, ISO, BS
✦ Knowledge of garment measurement and fit evaluation procedures.
✦ Understanding of chemical compliance (RSL/MRSL) and sustainable sourcing.
Leadership & Management: Leadership and team management skills. Working with operating staff to establish procedures, standards, and systems. Directing objectives to maximise profitability. Monitoring performance and supervising technical or laboratory staff
✦ Ability to build, mentor, and retain a high-performing QA/QC team.
Communication & Buyer Relations: Excellent communication and buyer handling ability. Good interpersonal & communication skills. Developing all communication strategies, both internally and externally. Writing management/technical reports and customer charters.
Analytical & Process Skills: Analytical and problem-solving skills. Recording, analysing, and distributing statistical information. Acting as a catalyst for change and improvement in performance/quality.
✦ Experience with root cause analysis (RCA) and 8D problem-solving methodology
✦ Ability to interpret quality data and translate insights into actionable improvements. Quality Systems & Standards: Developing objective metrics for measuring quality assurance across all product categories and brand channels. Development of overall and specific quality assurance policies and standards for all product categories. Ensuring execution of all quality assurance standards and practices. Tracking progress by buyers and brands
✦ Familiarity with GOTS, OEKO-TEX, WRAP, BSCI, SEDEX, and other compliance certifications.
Planning & Calendar: Planning and managing quality department activities in accordance with the agreed budget, timeline, and goals. Creating a yearly T&A (Time & Action) calendar for quality in alignment with the overall product development calendar.
✦ Experience in capacity planning for the QA/QC department during peak production periods. Audit & Accountability: Inspection of performance, internal audit performance, and accountability
✦ Experience handling third-party audits (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek, etc.)
✦ Ability to prepare and present audit reports to top management and overseas buyers
Strategy & Policy:
Develop and implement quality strategies aligned with organizational goals
Establish quality policies, SOPs, and compliance frameworks
Determining, negotiating, and agreeing in-house quality procedures, standards, and specifications
Investigating and setting standards for quality and raw materials
✦ Develop a long-term Quality Roadmap in alignment with business expansion and new buyer acquisition
Production Quality Control:
Oversee quality control from fabric inspection to packing
Ensure inline, pre-final, and final inspections meet AQL standards
Monitor and reduce DHU (Defects per Hundred Units)
Ensuring that manufacturing processes comply with standards at both national and international levels
✦ Implement 4-point and 10-point fabric inspection systems and maintain inspection records
✦ Oversee washing, finishing, and trims quality checkpoints in the production flow
✦ Ensure correct SPI (Stitches Per Inch), seam strength, and construction compliance per buyer tech pack
Buyer & Compliance Management:
Liaise with buyers for quality requirements and approvals
Handle buyer audits, inspections, and technical meetings
Assessing customer requirements and ensuring that these are met
Ensure compliance with international standards (ISO, OEKO-TEX, etc.)
Specifying quality requirements of raw materials with suppliers
✦ Proactively communicate quality updates, risk flags, and resolution plans to buyers
✦ Manage buyer scorecards and maintain quality rating/KPI dashboards per buyer/brand
Team Leadership & Culture:
Lead and manage QA/QC teams across all production units
Build a strong quality culture across departments
✦ Conduct regular quality training, workshops, and awareness programs for production and QC staff
✦ Define clear roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths within the quality team
Defect Management & Continuous Improvement:
Analyze defects and implement CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Actions)
Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen)
Reduce rework, rejection, and customer complaints
✦ Maintain a defect library and trend analysis database to track repeat issues
✦ Establish a Defect Alert System for real-time issue escalation on the floor
Vendor & Material Quality:
Ensure fabric and trims quality meets required standards
Approve vendors based on quality performance
✦ Conduct periodic vendor audits and maintain an Approved Vendor List (AVL)
✦ Develop fabric and trims quality approval (lab dip, strike-off, bulk approval) workflows
Reporting & KPIs:
Set and monitor KPIs for quality teams
✦ Prepare and present weekly/monthly quality performance dashboards to top management
✦ Track first-pass quality rate, re-inspection rate, shipment rejection rate, and customer return rate
