Experience requirements: 

To become a berth operations supervisor, a candidate must have proven experience in the following areas: 

Supervisory role:

Previous experience leading and managing a team in a fast-paced environment is essential. 

Terminal and vessel operations: In-depth knowledge of port and container terminal activities is required, including vessel planning, stevedoring, and yard operations. 

Cargo handling: Expertise in loading and unloading various types of cargo, including general cargo and oversized items. 

Logistics and planning: Experience with berthing ships, coordinating vessel movements and documentation. 

Safety and compliance: Familiarity with strict international and port-specific safety regulations and practices.

The job area for a berth operator supervisor is a fast-paced port, where they manage all ongoi operations on the berth during a designated shift.

 

Their primary responsibilities include:

 

Berth management: Assigning and controlling the arrival, berthing, and departure of vessels to maximize efficiency.

 

Operational oversight: Supervising all cargo and vessel-related activities, ensuring tha lifting, slinging, and cargo transfer processes are safe and efficient.

 

Resource allocation: Distributing personnel and equipment, such as cranes and empt container handlers, to different berths based on the operational plan.

 

Staff supervision: Training, managing, and scheduling shifts for the terminal operators and laborers who perform cargo handling.

 

Safety and environmental compliance: Enforcing safety procedures, identifying risks, and monitoring the use of environmental protection measures like oil booms.

 

Coordination and communication: Liaising with port services, vessel agents, shipping lines, and external clients to ensure seamless communication and smooth logistical flow.

 

Monitoring and reporting: Inspecting the dock area for damage, tracking operational progress against targets, and creating shift reports for management.
