Responsibilities & Context:

Duties & Responsibilities:

1.     Interview clients and receive applications, and take initiative for providing legal aid according to BLAST policies/guidelines, and/or make referrals to other service providers.

2.     Check and maintain files, registers regarding cases and the case diary as per BLAST guidelines.

3.     Scrutinize the case papers and analyze the merit of each case as per BLAST guidelines.

4.     Appear before the courts as required, particularly in family cases of clients.

5.     Oversee and monitor the conduct of cases by Panel Lawyers as per BLAST guidelines.

6.     Supervise and monitor case progress, including communications with clients, concerned panel lawyers, and sign language or other interpreters, and also inform the client at the time of appointment of the panel lawyer and sign language or another interpreter accordingly.

7.     Issue and collect filing and disposal slips, and search slips of BLAST cases.

8.     Examine the legal services bills as submitted by Panel Lawyers as per BLAST guidelines.

9.     Maintain records of the monthly list of cases being conducted by engaged panel lawyers.

10.  Explore and arrange mediation among disputants, particularly in family matters, facilitate and conduct mediation sessions in the absence of the Mediation Officer.

11.  Maintain petty cash for meeting daily expenses and ensure monthly adjustments in the absence of a Mediation Officer.

12.  Facilitate awareness meetings at the community level (including sessions on disability rights).

13.  Attend & conduct different workshops, seminars, training, courses, and meetings as required.

14.  Prepare inquiry reports for cases whenever required.

15.  Network/liaise with relevant government officials, NGOs, DPOs, and other actors as required, in consultation with the coordinator.

16.  Prepare/provide support in preparing monthly/quarterly/half-yearly/yearly legal statements regarding applications received, mediation, litigation, and case studies as per guidelines.

17.  Check and maintain the mediation register, money transaction register, mediation diary, court diary, and combined register as per guidelines.

18.  Preserve and document all services in Registers and BLAST Case Management System (CMS) and convey to concerned clients.

19.  Maintain records and send the reports regarding mediation work to the Assistant Director of Mediation and Training at Head Office through the Unit Coordinator.

20.  Perform all duties and responsibilities under the direct supervision, instruction, direction, and control of the Unit Coordinator.

21.  Perform any other relevant tasks as and when required by the management.
