∎ GK was created in 1972 with two visions. Firstly, “the fate of the poor decides the fate of the country”. Secondly, the “development of the country depends on the development of women”. Since 2017, Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) and UNHCR have entered a partnership to respond to the Rohingya crisis in Cox Bazar.
∎ Background:
∎ The mental health stabilization center is a psychiatric care unit partnership with GK and UNHCR for refugees and hosts community people. It is a 10-bed, inpatient unit with a primary health care center servicing the beneficiaries who are experiencing a mental health crisis and whose symptoms interfere with a person’s ability to remain safely in the community. Individuals are referred to the care unit by the different stakeholders working in the camps and host community. The stabilization center focuses on acute, short-term crisis stabilization providing psychiatric, psychological, and nursing services. The length of stay at the stabilization center may be a few days or a maximum of 14 days depending on treatment needs and/or the severity of symptoms. Following admission to the Stabilization Center, everyone is evaluated by a multi-functional team consisting of a psychiatrist, a general physician trained in mental health, a psychiatric nurse/nurse trained in mental health, a psychologist, and social workers.
∎ Job Purpose
∎ The paramedic will be engaged in pharmacological intervention under the supervision of an MHPSS consultant and medical officer with an emphasis on providing treatment for patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric and psychological problems. The position requires proper coordination and communication among SC staff for ensuring better support to the beneficiaries and strengthen the treatment.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Identification and referral of MHPSS cases for MHPSS services.
∎ To provide awareness and coaching to the community people on mental health and psychosocial support as part of enhancing their skills and coping with adversity.
∎ Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) support to the beneficiary.
∎ Observe the behavior of SC beneficiaries in home settings and keep home visits records and motivate the beneficiaries to continue the treatment.
∎ Work closely with psychologists, and other medical staff to improve the condition of beneficiaries’ mental health and psychosocial well-being.
∎ Ensure the confidentiality of data as per data protection guidelines define.
∎ Ensure reporting with confidentiality and timely manner.
∎ Participate in any MHPSS-related programs such as meetings, and campaigns with Psychologists, and MHPSS officers.
∎ Maintain good communication across the sector and different groups where MHPSS is aligned e.g. SMS team, Community Leader, religious leader, and other organization volunteers.
∎ Work on an emergency basis when necessary

∎ Special Note:
∎ Carry out any additional assignment per her/his position entrusted with the GK Management from time to time and mutually agreed upon.
∎ Management may, at any point in time, modify this job description as it is deemed necessary in Gonoshasthaya Kendra's interests in consultation with the incumbent
∎ Due to the emergency response nature of GK's work, hours of work may vary, and employees should be flexible in approaching hours of work in emergency conditions.
∎ The employee must respect the timetable, terms, and conditions of Gonoshasthaya Kendra and should always be available to respond to an emergency

Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at most 40 years
∎ Bangladesh national only.
∎ A person fluent in the Chittagonian dialect will be given a preference
∎ Skills in keeping a record of the beneficiaries after each follow-up at the household level.
∎ Previous experience in Mental health and psychosocial support could be an asset.
∎ A minimum level of understanding about mental health and psychosocial support activities- Desirable.
∎ Understanding of psychological first aid, basic counseling skills, relaxation techniques, etc.
