VisionSpring, a US-based social enterprise, is looking for a highly motivated and compassionate Refractionist to join our mission-driven team in Bangladesh. We are seeking a dynamic and self-driven candidate who would like to have a challenging and meaningful career path in Refractionist role and in the social sector. The candidate must be dedicated and sincere towards his/her work and should always be open to learning new things.

The Refractionist plays an important role in conducting vision camps in workplaces and communities – providing vision screening services to customers and appropriately dispense eyeglasses. This position is based within Dhaka, Bangladesh and will require extensive travel within the country and overnight stays near work sites. Reporting to the Asst. Program Manager, VAP. This is a full-time, contract-based position for a duration of two (2) years.

WHAT YOU`LL DO

Vision Screening

  • Engage customers to understand their vision concerns and identify any visual difficulties affecting their daily activities.

  • Obtain, document, and maintain accurate medical and ocular histories, including previous eye conditions, injuries, medications, and eye-related symptoms.

  • Conduct vision screenings and eye examinations using appropriate instruments and equipment to assess visual acuity, refractive status, and overall eye health.

  • Identify common refractive errors and eye conditions, including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, color vision deficiency, cataracts, and suspected glaucoma, and seek guidance from the Optometrist when necessary.

  • Assess eye health and safety factors that may affect vision and provide appropriate advice to customers.

  • Prescribe, dispense, fit, and adjust eyeglasses and other vision aids in accordance with VisionSpring protocols and quality standards.

  • Educate customers on proper eyeglass use, maintenance, and eye health practices.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality of customer information.

  • Refer customers to the Optometrist for further assessment of when conditions fall outside VisionSpring’s scope of practice or require specialized or ongoing care, including vision therapy, low-vision rehabilitation, or treatment for strabismus and amblyopia.

  • Work collaboratively with Optometrists and other team members to ensure high-quality customer care and service delivery.

  • Comply with VisionSpring policies, clinical protocols, and professional standards always.

  • Participate in training, mentoring, and continuous professional development activities to enhance technical and customer service skills.

Customer Education & Counseling

  • Promote eye health and overall well-being by providing customers with information, guidance, and counseling on vision care and eye health.

  • Educate customers on proper visual hygiene practices, eye care, and the correct use and maintenance of eyeglasses.

  • Provide professional, respectful, and customer-centered care, ensuring a positive and dignified experience for all customers.

  • Address and correct myths, misconceptions, and concerns related to eyeglasses, vision correction, and eye health.

  • Assist customers in selecting appropriate eyeglass frames and lenses based on their visual needs, preferences, and lifestyle requirements.

  • Explain examination findings, vision correction options, and eyeglass recommendations in a clear and understandable manner to support informed decision-making.

  • Foster customer satisfaction by delivering courteous, empathetic, and high-quality service throughout the vision screening and eyeglass dispensing process.

Team Training and Support

  • Work collaboratively under the supervision of an Optometrist, embracing feedback and actively pursuing opportunities for continuous learning and professional development.

  • Consult with Senior Optometrists regarding customers requiring specialized or urgent medical attention and document critical cases for review and knowledge sharing.

  • Share lessons learned and best practices with team members through case reviews, discussions, and training sessions to strengthen clinical knowledge and service quality.

  • Provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to team members to support skill development and adherence to VisionSpring standards.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional team members to ensure efficient service delivery and positive customer experience.

  • Support team operations by filling in for absent colleagues or participating in job rotation across roles such as Registrar, Counselor, or other operational functions as required.

  • Contributes to a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement across VisionSpring programs and activities.

Data Collection and Report Writing

  • From time to time and as directed, collect customer profile data, customer stories and survey data to help understand customer satisfaction, preferences and barriers to vision and optical care.

  • Use DigitEyes platform to capture all the relevant data and delivery camp report to authorized personnel.
