Education:
Basic Qualification
MBBS
Postgraduate Qualification (Specialization in Pathology)
MD in Pathology (Doctor of Medicine).
Diploma in Clinical Pathology (DCP).
Requirements:

Responsibilities & Context:
Diagnostic Analysis
Examine samples of blood, urine, tissues, and other bodily fluids.
Conduct microscopic and gross (macroscopic) examination of biopsy or surgical specimens.
Diagnose infections, cancers, genetic disorders, hematological diseases, and other conditions.
Laboratory Oversight
Supervise the operation of clinical laboratories (clinical pathology, histopathology, cytology, hematology, microbiology, etc.).
Ensure quality control and accuracy in test results.
Approve and validate critical lab reports before release.
Reporting and Documentation
Prepare detailed and accurate diagnostic reports for clinicians.
Document findings and maintain patient records following medical and legal standards.
Communicate results to referring physicians and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
Autopsies
Perform post-mortem examinations to determine cause of death in forensic or clinical cases.
Prepare medicolegal reports for legal or investigative purposes.
Quality Assurance and Safety
Implement and monitor quality assurance protocols (e.g., NABL, CAP standards).
Ensure compliance with biosafety, infection control, and waste disposal regulations.
Maintain up-to-date SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for lab processes.
Research and Development
Participate in clinical or academic research to advance medical knowledge.
Contribute to publications, case studies, and diagnostic guidelines.
Stay updated with advancements in pathology, immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostics, etc.
Teaching and Training
Educate medical students, residents, and laboratory staff.
Supervise and assess trainees in pathology techniques and interpretation.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Collaborate with oncologists, surgeons, hematologists, and other specialists to correlate findings.
Participate in tumor boards and clinical case meetings.
