Skill and Competencies:

Qualification:

• Electrical Technician Certificate or equivalent from a recognized training institute.
• Maybe relaxed in case of shipboard experience. 

Knowledge:

• Operation and maintenance of ship or shore-based industrial electrical plant and equipment, including knowledge of 3-phase & single-phase wiring.
• Ability to write reports about breakdown and repair.

Skill: Communication, motivation, and the ability to make decisions under pressure.                 

Experience:

• Holding Certificate as stated above: 02 to 03 years of practical experience on board ships or in shore-based industrial plants with the requisite knowledge as stated above.
• Without holding any Certificate: Minimum 05 years of practical shipboard experience in operation and maintenance of the ship's electrical plant and equipment.

Responsible for:

• The individual is responsible for overseeing the entirety of the ship's electrical systems, including alternators, motors, electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances, while operating under the authority of the Administrator, Senior Fleet Engineer, Fleet Engineer, or Assistant Fleet Engineer of Friendship.
• They are accountable for all operational, maintenance, and safety aspects concerning the ship's comprehensive electrical infrastructure, encompassing alternators, motors, electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances.

Activities:

• The individual will be responsible and accountable to the Administrator of the hospital ship and/or the Senior Fleet Engineer, Fleet Engineer, or Assistant Fleet Engineer of the Fleet Management Department at Headquarters for his duties and performance.
• He is entrusted with the oversight of the ship’s entire electrical plant, including alternators, motors, electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances, ensuring their proper operation, maintenance, and repair during both routine and emergencies.
• His responsibilities include conducting routine and periodic maintenance of the entire electrical plant, alternators, motors, electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances, which also encompass air conditioning units and refrigerators. Furthermore, he is responsible for maintaining the general cleanliness and overall appearance of the electrical systems and related components.
• The individual is required to maintain accurate records of all overhauls, maintenance activities, and running hours for all machinery and equipment, ensuring that these records are preserved as permanent documentation for the ship. He must ensure that the entire electrical plant, including alternators, motors, electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances under his supervision, is in optimal working condition, enabling immediate operational readiness in any emergency.
• The individual is also tasked with regularly checking the insulation resistance of all alternators and motors on the ship using a ‘Megger.’ Any abnormalities must be reported promptly to his superiors. Additionally, he is required to be physically present in the engine room to assist the Engine Driver during all maneuvering operations as well as during the maintenance and repair of machinery and other equipment aboard the ship.
• In conjunction with the aforementioned responsibilities, he must provide reports on the maintenance of the electrical plant, alternators, motors, electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances, as well as store and spare consumption, to his line manager on a weekly or monthly basis, or as otherwise instructed, reporting through the Administrator.
• He is responsible for preparing requisitions for spare parts and supplies related to the electrical plant, alternators, motors, electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances for the hospital ship and for submitting these requisitions to the Administrator for forwarding to the Fleet Management Department at Headquarters.
• Moreover, he may be assigned additional duties as deemed necessary or directed by the relevant higher authority, in accordance with his competencies or grade. He may also be transferred between ships as required by operational needs or the convenience of the Fleet Management Department, as long as the position is appropriate to his skills or grade level.
• Lastly, he is expected to consistently observe and uphold the organization’s Code of Ethics, Policies and Guidelines, Rules and Regulations, as well as Personnel and Confidentiality Policies.
