∎ For Rohingya Response in Cox`s Bazar, we are currently producing several multimedia outputs and communication tools targeting both Rohingya and host community. Therefore, we are seeking a Language and Culture Specialist to ensure high standard delivery of existing commitments in Rohingya language and to support the team for delivering all outputs in authentic Rohingya language in accordance with cultural context and sensitivity for the Rohingya emergency response works. S/he will ensure transferring the scripts and the ideas involved in it from Bangla/ English to Rohingya finding the balance between figurative and literal meanings.
∎ Overall purpose:
∎ S/he will work within the production team, to ensure that audio- visual and social media outputs are delivered in proper dialect maintaining cultural context of Rohingya community. Reporting to the Senior Copy Editor s/he will be working in different stages of production like script writing, filming/ recording, and editing to make sure all the outputs maintain highest quality of Rohingya language in accordance with BBC Media Action`s high creative standards and editorial requirements.
∎ S/he needs to be fluent in Bangla and Rohingya dialect and capture both the technical and intended meaning, considering style, tone, slang, and figurative communication and must have good understanding of cultural context of the Rohingya and local host community. The person also has to mentor a team of translators, writers, content researchers and other people working across the office on Rohingya language and culture.
∎ The post is based in Cox`s Bazar, but s/he has to travel to production locations across the country, as necessary. In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ To ensure all the contents are produced in authentic Rohingya language and in line with Rohingya culture and heritage.
∎ To support the production team to ensure that information presented to audiences is accurate and clear.
∎ To attend recces, filming locations and self-recording casting activities in order to ensure proper Rohingya dialect.
∎ To conduct production-related research to better understand the community peoples and present findings.
∎ To suggest strong stories and offer creative and compelling ways of presenting contributors within the programme.
∎ To perform neg checks for outputs when necessary.
∎ To support the development and translation of radio and video scripts and narrations.
∎ To help translating teaching, mentoring, and communicating with the Rohingya community.
∎ To mentor translators, writers and content researchers on language and cultural sensitivity
∎ To source potential contributors for radio and multimedia production.
∎ To undertake any other duties assigned by the line manager.

∎ Strong understanding of gender-related needs and concerns within humanitarian and displacement contexts. E
∎ Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships. D
∎ Good organisational and time management skills, with the proven ability to priorities, work independently and maintain attention to detail. E
∎ Functional understanding of safeguarding principles and commitment to follow BBC Media Action's Code of Conduct and safeguarding policy D
∎ Well-developed IT skills, including Microsoft Office. E
∎ Proven experience in production or in humanitarian communication / community engagement activities E
∎ Experience working in a development or related setting. D
