Job Summary

We are seeking a highly responsible and experienced professional for the position of Head of Instrument Caretaker & Sterilization (HICS) to oversee the hospital’s sterilization process, surgical instrument management, CSSD operations, and infection control compliance. The candidate will ensure proper sterilization standards, instrument availability, and safe handling procedures across OT, ICU, wards, and all clinical departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise all sterilization and disinfection activities of surgical and medical instruments

• Oversee Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) operations

• Ensure proper cleaning, packing, sterilization, storage, and distribution of instruments

• Maintain sterilization protocols according to hospital and infection control standards

• Monitor autoclave operations and sterilization equipment maintenance

• Ensure OT, ICU, Emergency, and wards receive sterile instruments timely

• Maintain inventory of surgical instruments and sterilization supplies

• Coordinate with surgeons, OT staff, nursing teams, and biomedical departments

• Ensure documentation of sterilization records and compliance audits

• Supervise instrument repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance

• Train staff on sterilization procedures and infection prevention protocols

• Ensure compliance with hospital accreditation and healthcare safety regulations

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Hospital Management / Nursing / Medical Technology / Microbiology / Healthcare Administration or related field

• Diploma or certification in CSSD Management / Sterilization Techniques / Infection Control preferred

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in hospital sterilization, CSSD, or OT instrument management

• At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial role preferred

• Experience in specialized hospitals will be considered an advantage

Additional Requirements

• Strong knowledge of sterilization standards and infection prevention

• Hands-on experience with autoclave systems and sterilization equipment

• Excellent leadership and team management skills

• Strong documentation and reporting abilities

• Ability to work under pressure and ensure emergency OT support

• Good communication and coordination skills

• High level of discipline, responsibility, and attention to detail
