Responsibilities & Context: Role Profile:
- Reporting to the Nutrition Supervisor – Nutritionist and collaborating with other components, the overall purpose of the position is to register all the Under-5 children along with putting properly the age, weight, and height of children in the growth monitoring card. S/he will identify a children's nutritional status based on his/her measurement & provide nutrition messages to mother/caregiver as appropriate of the nutrition status of the children. S/he will explain to mother/caregivers on the meaning of the growth chart colours and nutrition status of the children. H/She will equally ensure that there is appropriate referral for all children to other sections within the nutrition sites including the OTP/TSFP/BSFP and the IYCF Corners for further support. S/he will be responsible for all kind of documentation on GMP, record the program beneficiary data in register/digitalization app and report daily/weekly/monthly basis using standard reporting tools. S/he will support and supervise measurer volunteers as well.
Responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of Nutrition Supervisor – Nutritionist and in close collaboration with the Counsellor, the measurer, ECCD Promoter as well as other nutrition staff within the site, GMP promoter will ensure appropriate support is provided to all the caregivers of children under 5 years enrolled in the program. This position will undertake the following tasks:
GMP activities Implementation:
- Take anthropometric measurements weight, Height and other relevant indices and interpreting the measurement to inform the messaging and counselling to deliver to the caregivers.
- Plot the growth charts in the GMP Cards and discuss the growth and development of the child with the caregiver highlighting key concerns and congratulating the caregivers as applicable.
- Interview the mother to identify possible causes of a problem or trends towards a problem for example faltering weight.
- Discuss growth patterns with the caregivers and involve them in identifying problems and solutions related to the growth of their children.
- Encouraging caregivers of children under 5 years to attend GMP every month until the children are above 5 years.
- Counselling caregivers on infant and young child feeding and supporting appropriate referral for further counselling in the IYCF Corners and the community as well as treatment in OTP/TSFP where applicable.
- Support refers children with severe growth problems to other services for example Health Canters.
- Alongside the outreach teams, organize home visits follow-ups to children identified with faltering weight on subsequent visits to try and dig deeper into a potential challenge to child feeding and care practice at home.
- Support linkages to other services, particularly the IYCF Corners and ECCD including encouraging caregivers to use these facilities.
- Absent tracking and ensure follow up visits’ liaison with outreach team.
- Coordinate with Nutrition Supervisor- Nutritionist to prepare micro plan for GMP.
- Ensure quality anthropometric measurements in OTP, TSFP and BSFP components through regular follow up, supportive supervision and standardization.
- Provide capacity building support to measurer volunteers through OJT.
- Ensure all the measurement tools are adequately available, functional, and properly maintained.
- Prepare monthly and weekly reports and ad-hoc reports as requested and timely submit them to Nutrition Supervisor (Nutritionist).
- Liaising with the MEAL officer to maintain a database of all children enrolled in the GMP including supporting periodic analysis of this data.
- Enable a friendly collaborative working culture within the team, actively sharing information and knowledge to enable the team to ensure effective learning and sharing across the team.
